STOLEN SUNBEDS

Hi All

Would just like to say how happy i am with my little place in the sun and always have been.  It is with great sadness that i have to say i have had 2 very expensive sunbeds stolen from my apartment garden.  We were last over in October and they were safely stowed under the stairs in the alcove, like they always have been.

I was shocked and disappointed to find that they were gone when we arrived on Aprill 12th.  I hoped somebody may have "borrowed" them but this doesn't seem to be the case as they have still not turned up.  We left on the 22nd feeling rather peed off.  They were 80Euro's each and we have had them for 2 years.

I reported it at the Milenium office but they didn't seem that bothered - well i am!!  I am very disappointed and shocked more than anything - we have left all sorts of things out before but won't do anymore.  They are quite heavy and robust so not something that could be run off with quickly.  They were from the Brico on Campasol and i wouldn't be that bothered if they were cheap - 160Euro's is not cheap but we wanted something that would last and that we could leave outside.  The 2 beds are black steel framed with an adjustable head rest and a grey strong mesh bed - on the off chance that anybody may have "borrowed" them.  Apartment 465 for return please!!  Grrrrr!!!

I'm sorry to hear of your sunbeds being stolen. 

There has been a couple of these insidents happen around the the gardens.  Maybe if you upload a photographs of them and it jog someones memory if they see them. Just an idea.

Disappointing news.

If you have a keyholder they should be keeping tabs on your outside equipment for you- although it wouldnt stop a theft particularly you'd just know sooner. I suppose ML can't do much about it and may think you should have secured your property.

Mark your stuff in some way and photgraph it , showing it clearly on your property, lock it up and make it real awkward to move or take it indoors when you are not there. There's often so few people about that it would be an easy task to take items from one jardin to another - even from one end of the resort to another; though I tend to think even our security might have spied that happening. My bet is that they aren't too far from your apartment. But, unless they are marked and you can link the marking to you, what can you do?

Oh this terrible news.

I've been worried about this sort of thing happening. Everybody (us included) is so trusting over at CdA.

I really hope we don't start seeing chains and padlocks around sunbeds and patio furniture, but I have to admit, if our stuff got stolen, I'd probably be one of the first to consider some sort of deterrent on any replacement items.

 think of the cost of 4 sunbeds(75e times 4) 300 euros . think of the cost of a cycle lock  8.5 euros

btw if you want to claim on your insurance you will need the purchase receipt.

I am sorry to hear your news but It doesn't matter what resort you are living this on this happens and having a keyholder onsite checking the property does help

We always, where the beds cannot be moved into the property, insist that our clients put a simple ring into the wall, which is glued into the raw plug, and get a chain which runs through the beds and then a simple padlock, total cost no more than €40

Also we get onwers to cover the beds with a UV cover, this protects them from sun and again makes it more difficut to steal and it slows them down. a

 Where can we buy a raw plug?

Apologies bit early for typing should read Rawlplug  or if you like a universal plastic fixing plug for a wall

In the other properties my iin laws have they have everything taken to one side of the patio, chairs stacked and covered and tables close together and covered then everything is chained together to a ring in the floor. This is not an eyesore as its very neatly done and chains are hidden beneath the covers. It also protects everything from the elements.  It is more of an eyesore when everything has been left out and you get a storm and the chairs etc blow over and about and remain rolling about like that for months until the property is in use again. I do know of a sunbed that was flipped in strong winds and broke a glass door.

Needless to say it is disappointing but its important not to have a 'holiday' head on when you own a property that you cant use daily. I've been amazed to see rear patio doors wide open on CdA when the family are clearly all sitting out on the garden side of the apartment-or even at the pool. One family I know of would leave the rear patio door unlocked when they went out and about so that their daughter down at the pool could access the apartment but they had the keys incase she went for a wander. Leaving the front door of the upstairs apartments wide open when everyone is on the roof terrace is another no-no. Clear invitation for opportunist theft and action's most of us wouldnt do at home.

Disappointed to read this, it’s a shame we have to worry about these low life’s that just take what they haven’t worked for.

This means we have to chain everything down which make all our outlook potentially unsightly and if we come out on a short brake spend valuable time unpacking and then re securing our property.

I like many others have thousands of Euros of furniture and equipment on our roof and patios, it’s a constant worry if it’s to be their when we come out.

we have cheeper furniture left out we also have our names written in places of the furniture which are difficult to remove.

Chain is a good idea especialy if the furniture is worth a few quid.

The Brits are too trusting when we are overseas we will eventualy wise up i suppose.

Looks like i will be buying a chain and lock also.

If you catch them name and shame them.

Have definitely learnt my lesson!!  However, they have been left under the stairwell since we bought them as well as chairs and a table outside just by the door and never had any problems till now.  We have marked all the kids stuff etc that they just love to leave hanging around but never thought the furniture would go walkabout.

As we were arriving late on the 11th April our keyholder went round to put the outside lights on for our arrival around 9pm - she said they were definitely there then. It was after midnight when we arrived and i noticed before we had even got through the gate!! Thats how big and robust they were!!  She would have noticed just as i did cos she is there more t imes a year than me.  Yes us Brits are more trusting but i would like to think that after 3 years i shouldn't have to start chaining and bolting things down.

This may be a controversial question but i am a "newbie"...

Has this sort of thing happened before?  Is it likely to be other people on CDA or "t-leaves" coming on to the resort?  It's a bit scary (and sad!) to think that it could be other people on the resort as it's such a small community.

Overtime I've been back and forth on the CdA threads looking for various things, places, store names, ,members and can only remember very, very early on (whilst there were still workers about- no suggestion they were responsible is intended just that the resort was more open) that someone posted that they'd had their handbag taken from their apartment whilst they were in the shower (maybe) possibly in the bedroom getting dressed after a shower. But I think they'd left the front door open- which is daft as thats just dangerous even in a 7* luxury resort as a daughter of an Irish sporting manager found earlier this year. Otherwise I cant recall anything being reported on here although there's likely a very small minority of owners who bother with the forums.

Occasionally I've seen reports from La Torre of theft or buglarlies but Spain hasnt really suffered as the UK does from that type of crime , or at least at the same levels. However, there's lots of developing poverty or reduced income as a result of the recession and leaving things lying around is probably just too tempting for some. After- all who'd know what is up on all those roof terraces or the balconies of the penthouses or Isla properties? Taking stuff off might be a problem but as people have commented on another thread when the security know or recognise you- will they stop you anyway or wave a cheery goodbye as you progress to the flea market to sell your wares?

We also went for the external understair lockable storage, quite expensive, but looks good and holds a lot of stuff, doesnt have to be expensive stuff either, just somewhere to store the clutter as well. worth it for us.

Are all the thefts happening on ground floor apartments?

This thread only relates to one specific theft. The only other I can recall was back in 2008, and if there have been any others  nothing has appeared on this forum or for that matter on any other I read. It's not been brought up as an alert by anyone and no Presidents seem to have ever mentioned any concern about 'thefts' and CdA  is not  caught in a crime wave of any sort at all. So without further information it seems an isolated incident thats a finacial loss to the owners of the sunbeds but for other people a little bit of good can come out of it  making everyone a bit more aware and security concious.

We too have the very same sunbeds & have always been left out on our roof terrace. Like you we are in Jardin 5

Last year I was very anoyed to recieve an email from people who had rented our aprtment as they reported that though they had wanted to use ourBBQ theydidnt as it had use & not cleand. there were also cigarette ends in the ah & on the floor

We have strict No smoking policy & as no one had been over for quite some time & that our property manager had checked every thing after our last renters it was obvious that some cheek y **** had used it.

Now I am wondering if our beds will still be there. We do have two cheeper ones but yhey are locked away

We also have a small round table & four vey nice fold up chairs that are opposite our door. Since the BBQ incident they are always put inside our apartment & only bought out a few hours before we or our clients arrive.

Just had a terrible thought

If the rotters read EOS they might think they can add to their pair of sun beds with a matching pair & take ours too.

We will deffinatly be buying those locks etc when we are over next

Though another thought is to take up some of our propery managers precious time & ask her to sort the locks etc out & we can pay her when we go over.

Carol, bless her sorted out a padlock etc for our BBQ after it had been used. why we did not think of the sun beds I do not know.
