There must be some nice restaurants around (sick of Chinese and Indian) craving some good local food or just a really nice meal in a really nice restaurant. Please share your recommendations we are happy to travel for a nice meal. Thanks!

Hi,
There is a nice restaurant in Bolneuvo just opposite the sand sculptures called La Siesta, it is expensive but you get what you pay for. I would recommend the Beef stroganoff and pate to start and if you want atmosphere dont book until at least 10.00pm, the restaurant is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays (I think) so just check first before heading down there. Ther is also a good Pizzarea 2 just across the road from the Chinese buffet Wok, the one with the two lions outside, this pizzarea does the most amazing fresh pasta, best i've tasted in Spain so far. The restaraunt sits round the corner from the other ones and i think it is called something like "the palmenda", it has wooden tables and red chairs and again don't leave it to late as the spainish seem to take over the whole place just about 10. Veggios in the port is reasonably priced and the food there was good and they had a good choice. They do a menu del dia but it finishes at 4.00pm. The Bulgarian in Camposol is good but they serve chips with everything which put us off a bit, but the owner said thats what the public want? I certainly didn't.
I honestly think trial and error is a good way of finding good restaurants and dont be put off with the look of the place sometimes these are the best places.
good luck
Ali

Hi Claire,
First one on our list every time now is Antipodus at La Azohia. Lovely little restaurant perched up above the harbour overlooking Mazarron bay. Excellent value for menu of the day Mon' - Fri. Not particularly Spanish but top notch food with an amazing setting.
Also recommend 7th Heaven down in the Port. This now has an upstairs terrace overlooking the bay & marina. Does good barbacued food - very tasty. The whole marina area has improved significantly but we have not had a chance to try some of the new restaurants yet.
Also read good reviews about the log cabin cafe/restaurant up in the Sierra Espuna. Supposed to do a good paella and local stews in the company of wild boar with again, a stunning outlook. We intend to try it next time over.
May need some info' from you in return on Dubai. Planning a visit in December and loolking for recommendation on best Lebanese/Arabic at a reasonable price (i.e. not Palm Atlantis !). Will send you a p.m.
Regards,

Food - my favourite subject! Our favourites are:-
La Caverna - fantastic menu del dia and also very good night time menu (if you like meat). The owner will pick you up from Condado and drop you back off if there are enough of you.
Avenida on the Paseo in Puerto Mazarron - great for tapas.
La Siesta - as Ali said a little expensive but great food every time.
Mariposa Hotel - in Sierra Espuna - great food and views to match. 4 course menu del dia which can be combined with quadbiking or kayaking.
Antipodus - L'Azhoia - good food and superb views. This used to be my favourite but the last couple of times we've been I've been a little disappointed.
Favourite for the kids is the Bulgarian in Camposol
Next on the list to try is the Wild Boar Restaurant in Sierra Espuna - which was closed when we went up in August.

The Wild Boar Restaurant is in Fuente del Hilo which is in the centre of the Sierra espuna nature reserve, as 9 times out of 10 you will see the wild boar (The restaurant owner feeds them) go to Alhama de Murcia and follow the signs for Mula, after approx 5km turn left signposted El berro and Camping Sierra espuna, when you get to the top of the windy hill do not take the turning for El Berro but drive straight on into the park and follow the signs for 'Fuente del hilo' ....a great menu del dia at 8.50€.....booking advised which speaks for itself 968439223....

Hi,
Like Michael Hardy I to found the Antipodios very disappointing the last time we were there(approx 3 weeks ago). The soup was just coloured water, the salads fanastic, the main course tastless, the puds great. Really sorry about this is it was one of our favourites, but the veiws arre still fantastic.
Forgot to mention the Mariposa, been a few times and haven't had a bad meal and exceptional value for money but it is not spanish food as the place is owned by brits.

A good way to discover the Wild Boar is to go on a quad adventure with Mark at the Mariposa. That way you get to experience the quad biking (great) and a meal at the Mariposa which is also nicely situated in the Sierra Espuna. As part of your Quad ride, you call in at the Wild Boar for a refreshing drink.
Surprised to hear that Antipodus was not up to scratch - did you have the full choice of all the options ?? Sometimes if you are too late in the afternoon some of the choice of courses is reduced. We tried it on an evening last time in July, but have to say thought the day-time option was the best.
Also enjoy Siesta restaurant on the beach at Bolnuevo and bit further along Oasis bar does 'very canny' Tapa's.

Another good restaurant is La Chara in Isla plana. It is Spanish owned but certainly not a typical Menu-del-dia,not been in the evening lunch time menu is €9 this does not include coffee, but very nicely laid out. There is also a nice area in front of it on the beach that has wooden boarding, very pleasant for a stroll after lunch, they used to be a cafe opposite the church were we would sit and have a coffee and take in the views, but not sure if that is still open.
Another good one is La Rata as you drive through Totana, not the fastest service but the meal is definately worth the wait. Both restaurants are closed on a Monday.

Right, got it sussed. Next time over I am going to book the Wild Boar for a menu del dia lunch. We will head up in the car and I will put my mountain bike in the back. Mrs E can drive the car back and I will cycle it - downhill most of the way, yeeha !
She always says to me 'why can't you have a soft drink' when we go out for lunch. Well, a cool beer or two is part & parcel of the holiday aint it ? .
So maybe here is a good reason to grant her wish .

Hi all,
not smooth -
I have to admit I was thinking exactly the same thing. So I am 'copying & pasting' all the restaurant recommendations and directions from this thread and putting them in a 'new document' that I will print off and take over with me next time.
Have to admit, your idea of an Index system for the website would be a great help for all kinds of things.
Justin (the administrator) might just pick up on it as he does look through some threads from time to time.

Out of interest, has anyone dined at our restaurant recently and got any feedback ?
We were last out in July when it first reopened and there were one of two teething troubles
Do you still need to book a table. Thinking of Saturday night in particular after the market
Thanks

Hi
We ate there on Sunday evening. Food was very good (swordfish excellent) if a bit pricey - nice not to have to travel out though. Atmosphere very good Sunday night - a bit noisy Friday and Saturday !

With regards to the restaurant on condado does anyone know if you can book online? Also what time do they stop serving?
We're coming out with my parents quite late on a Saturday, I think we'll probably get to Condado at about 10.30pm and wondered if the restaurant would still be open.
Thanks,
Lynn

just back from condado scorching hot
bulgarian at camposol was quality
chinese at camosol and in the port, good.
best of the week - whilst walking down the harbour the lure of the BBQ at seventh heaven upstairs on the roof overlooking the harbour was very good, recomend the cofta. pretty setting for a meal also.
The bars at the port are getting better every year
the 50 cent bar is worth a vist 50 cent for small lager 1 Euro large - 1 Euro 50 for a Pintas ice cold glass straight out of ther freezer.
Mazerron is defianately getting better year in year out.
