Mapfre Familiar

Hi - I have just spotted two amounts that have been paid to Mapfre familiar for the two apartments we have at Condado. There approx. 200 euros each payment. Would anyone be able to shed some light on what this may be for? Im guessing its house insurance from a googling exercise however I thought this was included in our service charge. Appreciate any comments anyone can offer? Thanks.

 The Building insurance IS paid for in your quarterly fee's, but not contents insurance, which you have to arrange yourself. You can arrange it through Millenium [ approx. 70 euro's per year ]

Most people who bought on Condado through Parador Properties had an insurance (buildings & contents) policy made with MAPFRE in Torrevieja. MAPFRE Familiar is just a name of the type of policy that you have with MAPFRE. See below the general conditions that refer to cancellation.

 The insurance is stipulated for the period indicated in the
Particular Conditions of the contract and shall come into
force on the day and at the time stated in them, providing
that they are signed and the Company has collected the
first receipt premium.
If taken out for renewable periods, it will be extended
automatically for successive periods of the same
length, unless:
a) Either of the parties opposes renewal by means of
written notice served on the other at least two
months before the expiration of the current period.
b) The Policy-holder opposes renewal in the way
specified in these General Conditions.
By mutual consent, both parties may terminate the contract
after a statement of loss. In this case, the Company
should refund to the Policy-holder the part of the total
premium that pertains to the period between the effective
date of the rescission and the expiration date of the current
insurance period.

In Spain you have up to 55 days to pull back a payment that has been taken by DD....this is the easiest way (although you may be in breach of contract) to get your money back or cancel a contract.

Do NOT take out a buildings and contents Insurance policy with Mapfre. We have just given up on our claim with them for theft and malicious damage to our property in Spain. It has been nine weeks of frustration, lack of progress with the claim and endless excuses from them to our  Spanish solicitor.  They seem to be determined not to pay out on any claim presented to them if they can help it!  What makes it more annoying is that we now realise that we have been paying hundreds of euros more for the policy each year compared to costs with other insurers. Our bank insisted we insure with them when we took out a morgage but we are now cancelling the policy. Avoid  Mapfre at all costs!
