The Chairman of Phase 1 Gardening Committee and three of its members have resigned, due to a dispute arising from the termination of the maintenance contract held by the Gardening Company. This decision was taken after a meeting, that took place between Marisol from Housing and Moira McGee our President.
It was felt by the Gardening Committee members that this decision was not in the best interest of Phase 1. The reason being is, that the Gardening Committee have been working very closely with the company involved and believe that much of the progress to date should be attributed to them.
The Gardening Committee acknowledge that there are many outstanding maintenance issues that require attention but feel these problems have been on-going for a very lengthy time and would be better served by having a proper maintenance structure in place. This is a matter for our management to sort out. To blame our current provider for these problems is unfair and unjust.
The Gardening Committee accepts that not all owners will agree with their views. But with all due respect to these owners, they are not privy to all that has been happening. The current management have taken this decision without taking into account the tremendous amount of maintenance work already done by Jose Maria and his team, before any gardening work could proceed.
Our President is of the opinion that maintenance is not part of the Gardening Committee remit. The view taken by the Gardening Committee is that both gardening and maintenance frequently overlap. Any decision to terminate a contract that effects the way the Gardening Committee functions, should not have been done without due consultation.
