On three occasions now when undertaking repairs in apartments I have found a potentially dangerouse problem with the lighting installations.
On all the fittings I have inspected the earth wire has been cut off, leaving the metal casing of the fitting unprotected by earth.
The circuit is protected by an RCD unit, but as there is no testing procedure in place these cannot be relied upon to give 100% protection
I would urge you to check your installation if you think Polaris installed your lights for you, simply turn off your power and remove the cover of the light fitting, you should be able to see the connection block, there should be three wires connected, black, blue, and green and yellow, if that is the case your fitting has been installed correctley, if not and you only have the black and blue wires connected your fitting is not earthed, as mentioned previously this is potentially dangerouse as if there was a fault and your RCD unit failed to operate when you touched the metal casing of the light you could sustain a serious electric shock.
Sorry to sound so morbid, but I do believe people should be aware of this problem, I have reported my findings to Millenium
