Guns of Mazarron

Saw someone asking for directions on the forum- worth visiting.

"The road up to the guns is narrow and twisting and great caution should be exercised.  The road runs up into the hills behind Campilo de Adentro, which is to the right on the E16 road leading from Puerto de Mazarron and La Azohia to Cartagena.  This area is part of an important regional park and many rare birds and plants are found there"

I too would definitely recommend it. We've been there twice now, once walking on our own, after parking the car halfway up as the road was getting scarier and scarier, and hubby wimped out! We walked up to the aerial first which has fantastic views, and then coming back took the right hand turn to the guns. It was a flipping long walk, so make sure you take plenty of fluids.  The second time we drove our parents there. If you do go to the guns take a torch, and then you'll be able to go down the tunnels which are underneath the guns. A fantastic experience!

Great trip provided you dont meet anyone coming the other way as it is a battle of wits who is prepared to pull over !

Would recommend avoiding going on a weekend as it will be quieter. We had the place to ourselves when we went once - a very bizarre experience

Hi is the road up more scary than going to the top of the Sierra Espuna because if it is then im afraid i will have to give it a miss as the S.E was an experience and a half lol.

We have been several times now and thoroughly enjoyed the experience- have taken friends with us too who also couldn't believe the size of those guns!  The views are fantastic too.

Really taken with how all the buildings have been restored far nicer than the usual concrete bunker- almost Disneyesque.

Yes the drive is an experience but views down into the valley are amazing, we met with a herd of goats and a goatherd at one point.

We have stopped here and there on route beyond Puerto Mazarron, before getting to the ascent into the hills and there are nice stops along the promenades for a beer and to look out to sea. Several little beachy coves that might interest beach minded people looking to avoid crowds in the summer months.

I agree worth the trip, take a good torch so you can look inside the guns as there is no lighting and this area of the guns hasn’t been renovated so far,
