Has anyone investigated having air conditioning installed, if so who are they getting to fit it? What was the approx cost, or would it be better to see if we can get a group rate from suppliers. Like wise with sat TV are we all having 1.3 metre dishes? Or has any one thought of a communal system.

I've had some quotes for Sat TV...the first looks cheapest but the second has not disclosed the extent of group discount

Comunicaciones de Horizonte SL - www.tech-systems.info

Our basic full installation - dish, single feed lnb, digibox and standard installation (up to 15m of cable) is 450

To do a system for four properties the costs are as follows:-

1.25m dish, quad (four feed) lnb and installation of antenna - 375 €

Digibox plus cable run (up to 15m cable) per property - 255 € (cable runs over 15m are charged at 1€ per m in excess of 15m)

If a property owner brings their own digibox we would charge 50 € for the cable run at time of dish installation or 75 € to return and run a separate cable

This equate to an overall shared cost per property of 348,75 €

OR

d.match digital services - dmatch@telefonica.net

1.3m fte satellite dish with support           4 output Universal Digital LNB

with full installation inc  -  €370.69

Cable run per apartment  - €85.34 (x4 = €341.36)

Total inc IVA - €825.98 for 4 block apartment run = €446.50 per apartment

+ digibox and cards per apartment

Group discount if a number of installations can be completed in one day on site

Sky/BBC digibox  - €240.00

Channel 4&5 card - one off €80.00

Sky Card subscription - €80.00

No UK address required for cards

Hi All,

Yesterday we had air-con units installed by D-Match and they did a very good job - except that they managed to badly scratch the marble tiles under each unit - presumably where the step-ladder was placed.
We tried to remove the browny-black marks and got some out but some will be there forever.

I have written to D-Match asking for advice on removing such stains, but really this post is just to warn anyone who is about to or is planning to get air-con installed to ensure the tiles are protected beforehand (i.e. get installers to lay down protective sheets or cardboard).

I am having difficulty understanding some of the figures in other messages but here is an email reply to a request for a quote from Europa-Digital. Apparently they have done some installations in Los Olivos already. Residents I know elsewhere in Huerta Nueva have been satisfied with their service. Their proposal that one person buys the dish and the others pay a one off rental is to overcome the problem that all sharing may not be there at the same time and later someone may want to drop out of the shared dish. The main differences in the quotes seems to be in the size of dish. Though I would query the figures below as the cost of a shared system seems to work out more than I expected.  Note: You do not need a card to get all the Freeview channels. Oh! also note if you are hoping to use your own digibox that older models may not work very well on a shared dish.

Further to our telephone conversation the price for a single system with 1.35m dish, digibox, etc. fitted is 590 euros. This will give you over 300 free to air channels with no ongoing monthly subs and no card required. Should up to 3 other people wish to join there would each pay for a portion of a quad LNB (200 euros), a cable run (50 euros) and a digibox and surge protector (320 euros). They would then pay the person who bought the dish a one off rental of dish space (75 euros) which we would manage for you.
If you have any questions please email me or call the number below. Lead time for an installation is approx. 3 days

I queried the figures with Europa-Digital that I posted on Saturday and have received this reply.

No this is the normal price that people sharing pay. The owner does get the system cheaper but this is mainly due to the fact that he has the dish on his property and cables going to the other 3 apartments. Hence the lower prices compensates him for this.

Seems fair enough. I am told that the bigger dish is needed where we are and there is a difference in the quality of the digiboxes provided by the different firms. Would be interesting to hear from any Los Olivions who have had a shared system installed already.

Hi all,

Out of interest, from those people who have had sat systems installed already, what is the picture/signal quality and reliability like?  We've just spent a week at a Los Naranjos apartment.  It had, what appeared to be, a Sat installation utilising a 1.35m dish.  However, for most of the week I could only get "There is a technical problem" or "no Sat signal being received" and when I did get a signal it was very "blocky".  Only channel you could watch with regularity was CNN!!  A set of instructions, left at the apartment, advised me that rebooting of the system may be required at times e.g. power cuts, other signal losses.  The fact that these instructions were there suggested that this is a more frequent occurance than back in the UK.

Is this typical or just an example of a bad installation?

best wishes, Lewis

You are upstairs Lewis, you should be fine.  We saw excellent picture quality at several Arriba apartments.  However, we had someone out to look at siting a dish on the downstairs and I think it is going to be problematical.  It will be best to share with neighbours upstairs, but they may want to use all four connections so this will not always be possible.  Lots of power cuts at the moment, but this will get better once everyone is on mains electricity.  Air con also needs rebooting after a cut.  For anyone interested - you can get 7 Spanish channels just by plugging in.  Picture quality is fine.

Best wishes,

Linda

The only problem seems to be with people on the ground floor North side with regards to satelite positioning as the dish needs to be sighted to receive a signal. People on the South side ground, can locate the dish on the floor, however people on the North do not have any position as anything above ceiling height of their apartment is classed as upstairs property and would need permission to mount a dish on somebody else's property.

With regards to sharing the problem is that a dish can only provide 4 feeds. Should you require a Sky Plus box this takes 2 and should you be like us a Sky plus box in the sitting room and one in the bedroom takes all the available feeds .

What options do we have as a community regarding  having a large dish in the communal area, hidden within the new shrubs for everybody to share as large developments and high rise blocks seem to use these.

The place will be littered with dishes and people on the South side will be disadvantaged for a beautiful out look at the mountains.

Looking through the messages again. Drew said that those on the ground floor south side can position a satellite dish on the ground but I think there are properties to be built on the other side of the road at some time in the future which may cause a problem.

Someone mentioned the large grey dishes causing a bit of an eyesore. Sorry to go on about when we were in Cabrera but up there you were supposed to paint the dishes to match the wall colour. As long as you use a water based paint suitable for outside walls it does not affect reception.

We have had our satelite installed by Satcom, this was very resonable,he came and fitted the next day, we are sharing with Mike & Carole 8b, with dish and dual LNB, cable runs to both apartments cost 350 euros, we took a sky box from the UK as they are much cheaper here and work just the same (available on ebay) if you get one, some of the older ones will not pick up channel 4 in Spain.

if you would like contact details for Satcom, please send a PM and will pass on.

regards
