Valencia by train

Hi,I'm out soon and toying with the idea of a few days in Valencia.

Has anyone gone by train??I know there are direct trains from Murcia to Valencia and I can easily get to Murcia from Alhama;plus it looks as though the connection should work.

What about prices and hotels in Valencia and/or near the station,anyone done this??

My daughter took the train from Alhama de Murcia to Valencia and back a couple of years ago, very easy, just one change at Murcia del Carmen station. About half an hour to Murcia and then about 2 and a half hours to Valencia.

I have driven to Valencia a few times in the past and stayed over, takes me about 3 hours and is a nice drive. Valencia is a very large city (3rd largest in Spain) and some hotels (normally the cheaper ones) are miles from the centre so be carefull.

A centrally located hotel will not be too expensive, a little less than Barcelona or Madrid. I normally get a 4 star for less than £100 per night.
