Hi

Ham is a Paramedic and it is not easy to get to that standard of training. Here in the UK paramedics have to re qualify every year.

If Spain follows the same route as the UK who followed the US then anyone wanting to volunteer for training on a voluntary or semi paid position needs to think about some serious insurance & I really do mean serious Any slight hic cup in the UK as in the US and every Joe Bloggs & his family suddenly becomes a specialist and the need for compensation becomes a priority for the family so these people really do need to cover themselves.

Most cases are totally unjustified and loss of income etc. can be costly whilst waiting for the outcome.

Instead of getting too carried away & wanting to buy expensive equipment, you need to find out just who would be willing to put their life and their finances on the line to be trained. If there are no takers & I know Ham would not consider it then do not waste your money.

Get names of interested parties, and I would think that on a community like Condado there may be a requisite that these people have at least a good  knowledge of two languages and only then look to raise money for them to be trained

It is no good looking to Millennium as I am sure this has been mentioned to them before but they, if they have their heads screwed on, have looked at the insurance side of things & even for just one person may have realized it’s a hell of a lot of money.

Fingers crossed incidents that require a paramedic are very few so who would be able to do nothing but wait "just a case." It would have to be someone who has retired otherwise unless they work on Condado it may take them too long to get to the patient anyway.

Just a thought

Jan

They already have good volunteers...its the bureaucracy of it all thats the fun part...and the fundraising of course but that's Spain!

Fortunately the claim culture hasnt hit Spain yet...but its only a matter of time!!!

Add Condado Response on FB if you are on Facebook!!

The question is...if we already had a CPR team would we have a 6 year old girl lying in hospital unaware she has lost a toe??  Gd bless her and her family!!

Could I suggest that the De-fib equipment be in the security car, which is on site 24/7

Then  the security guard  could be trained in it's use.

I would not object if the security budget was increased to cover this extra cost !

Hi, good idea of location but there are at least 4 security guards that I have seen who man it...and the training of these individuals costs a ridiculous amount of money and the ones I know speak minimal English. Maybe their security company could train them and the fund could train resident volunteers???

On behalf of the volunteers who have given up there time and are willing to accept the responsibility of being a member of CPR and be subject to the Charity Status of which CPR as now been approved. This as taken us 6 months to achieve and will now allow us to accept donations, open bank accounts, without paying tax, which you can be liable for in Spain.

Over the past 6 months we have spoken to many people, especially the Fast organisation at Camposol, who have been through the same scenario and are now flourshing and providing an excellent service to the community there.

This is the same conclusion that a few of us decided to work  for, when CPR was discussed and agreed to achieve.

Nothing as changed and we are still working hard towards that target,  in doing this I must thank alot of people who donated money to this cause, through organising many fund raising functions, I will not name them, because there are too many, but I thank them very sincerely.

Progress is being made and the 1st session of training will commence in September with the a team of 8 volunteers, once we have a bank account, we will start to purchase equipment and put procedures in place to control CPR.

I am sorry to say that this takes money to fund, we raised an incredible amount so far, but it does not end there, the project is an on-going situation and funds must be raised constantly.

We have commitee  of 3 people, thay are in the roles of President, Secretary aand Treasurer, these people are responsible to the Murcian authorities and must work just like any charity in the UK, i.e annual general meetings with accounts/balnce sheet presented to the residents of Condado. we are also supported by a small team of volunteers who organise and raise money for CPR

We are open to any person who wishes to volunteer, whether it be as a first aider, fund raiser or an administrator, please contact Lynn in the Clover and she will gladly pass on your details to us.

If people wish to have a general meeting in the near future, then I am sure we can organise one.

I am very pleased that people are waking up to the fact that we do need CPR on site, it is a very worth while cause, but we do need money and we do need volunteers.

If you wish to monitor our progress, then you will find us on Facebook, under Condado Primary Response.

There are leaflets being circulated about CPR and these have been left in the various bars and restaurants on the site.

I have approached Millenium and once we have all the required documentation, which hopefully will be completed in the next few weeks ( dont forget this is Spain), I will be able to sit down with Millenium and especially the Level 1 President and ask them how are they going to support CPR.

I am sorry about the long blog, but I hope it explains a lot of things that have been going on behind the scenes.

PLEASE SUPPORT US

President CPR

I will faces and names to posts of President, Secretary and Treasurer, when we are fully official

President CPR

Very sorry to have read about this childs accident.

As far as this thread goes it has me a bit lost. I'm all for the CPR Team being established on CdA- but surely we are talking about First Aiders and not paramedics. First Aiders being an important 1st point of call but not medics in the was paramedics are? Defibrilators are a very useful tool but it would do with just the driver of the security car being trained as surely there are several drivers to cover the 24/7 requirements of the job?

Train volunteers to First Aid standards first and then see what else is needed. It can only be residents afterall.

If we are not on CdA very frequently how do we contribute - I feel they are missing out on contributions if they just rely on people on CdA attending fundraisers or donating? This needs greater publicity.

Sounds so simple when you say it like that....what about a Paypal account and we all contribute whatever we can to start...even monthly???

Believe its a First aider who will also use defibrillator till relevant ambulance comes...my understanding that Spanish bureaucracy decrees an expensive course for anyone to use a difibrillator!

The Facebook page is Condado Primary Response as advised below by Harry1

Hi

Sorry

I think I had my wires crossed. I was thinking that peple wanted a paramedic on site

A first aider or first aiders is a great idea & both Ham & I  bought a raffle ticket a long time ago to win a car (I think)

We are evedently not that aware of what goes on on Condado as we did not realise that the fund raising continues and volunteers in place

I would be willing to make some contribution, maybe on a yearly basis

A quick response, well trained first aid team armed with a defib would be great for the resort, although as the resort covers quite a large area timing would be an issue. It is a shame that spanish law is different from what happens in the uk as far as use of a defib goes. They are so easy to use by any member of the public nowadays and save lives.Even without the training I have had I would not hesitate to use one or try to help in an emergency situation as I am sure most of us would.

I would be more than happy to contribute towards an onsite team and well done to all of those involved in the setting up of this.

Ok what I meant. "Paramedic standard." Ultimate pipe dream. Practicable:- Fully equiped first aiders initially, then if necessary move on from there. Funding:- Neil and Lyn have been running fundraising events, as have the golf society and others for a while. Still low funds. Trust me fundraising is bloody difficult in the best of times.

Harry1:-  Hopefully you will by now have a good idea of training and running costs for this project. I would like you to ask.....no not ask.  PERSUADE at your meeting with Mileniun that they take 1 or 2 euros per property. Monthly? Quarterly? 6 monthly? Annually? Whatever is required. This is I believe the fairest and most practicable way to fund this.

As I said earlier. If a member of your family is laying there in dire need of trained medical assistance..........would you be glad you have broadband..

Please persuade them to do it Harry. And a big thank you to you and your team, and everyone else for all your hard work

Frank (I know it says Jim).

Thank you GolfinJim for your kind words

I take on board your idea regarding Millenium and the need for them to support CPR, but I think you are forgetting one thing and that is each Jardin vote for a president who represents us at meetings with Milenium.

I can only think of 2 Presidents who have approached me and congraulated my team and I on what we are trying to achieve

I will try at the meeting, but we need a stronger voice than me.

If there were collection boxes for CPR in the various bars and shops on CDA many people would gladly donate. I have a large quantity of small denomination coins that I have accumulated over 5 years of visits to CDA, which I would have put in charity boxes if available rather than keep them. I am sure other people have a similar stash of unwanted coins and would gladly hand them over to CPR if there were a collection point.

Then we need everybody who believes in this, to say to their Presidents. "If you dont support and vote for this, then I wont support and vote for you next time." Note I used the phrase "everybody who believes in this." If you don't that is your choice. Personally I'd like to think the vast majority will.

Hi Jann

Thank you for your concerns regarding fund raising, we will take on board all of everybodies suggestions and now start to look at more ways of gathering the funds.

Today I had a meeting with our solictor, who informed me that we can now open a bank account and will be exempt from paying tax on any donations, as you can things are very different in Spain compered with the UK, this is why we have had to read very carefully.

We are fully legal, training will start next month, the purchase of equipment  will start soon after, the reason for this is, that I will talking to the trainer, who is verified by the Murcian Medical organisation and he will give us good advice on what type of equipment is available in spain and where to obtain.

As president I feel that we need to follow the strict guidelines laid down by Spain regarding Charities, it is very easy to fall into hidden problems, unless you get the right advice.

Please for any further information, please access our web page on Facebook, or go to WWW:condado primary response, these web pages have been set up for passing on information/progress to evrybody involved with Condado De Alhama.

Great news, well done.

Had thought keeping a good level of donations would be difficult if people only thought they could donate at fundraisers when on the resort.

Can see you are absoloutely right to make sure every thing is done correctly according to Spanish rules.

Hopefully CPR Condado can now go from strength to strength.

Dear all,

There's a meeting this morning to organise a fundraiser for around halloween time for CPR fund. If anyone is willing to donate something for a raffle, offer a skill we can utilise on day or has any suggestions...this would be gratefully received.

The first volunteers were trained last week.

A donation would obviously be warmly received, at the link below

Thanks in advance,

Denise
