We are thinking of escaping the gloomy UK and coming over for Xmas/New Year, can anyone let me know what goes on over there at this time of year? Any information will be useful, especially with regards to New Year, where I believe there is a function at the clubhouse? is there any local celebrations? Also is there anywhere recommeded for Xmas lunch especially with a veggie option?

Cheers

We are also heading over for New Year. The Clubhouse usually has a 'do'  on New Years Eve. Last year we were emailed details of what was on. No email of this years events yet, probably too early yet.

The bar Timeout (on the main road heading to San Javier) has a New Years Eve do. They have a program of events throughout the year which they email out. Try contacting them or look on website www.timeoutsportsbar.es

Can't help about C'mas lunch. Maybe someone else out there can help.

We go most years arriving just after Boxing Day, I must say the place is very peaceful and laid back. Weather is always a blessing compared to the UK and we love it.

The club house does indeed ( or has) a party on New Year's Eve, we have not gone as its rather expensive and not our thing. Better we find to go out for an early dinner and watch the new year on Spanish TV.

Every year I leave and think how nice it would be to spend the dark winter days at Roda one day I will........

Enjoy its lovely.

You'll probably find it difficult to find a veggie Christmas Day lunch, plus you'll almost certainly have to do it in a Brit bar as most of the Spanish ones will be closed. Xmas day is a religious one for the locals and lots of the Spanish bars probably won't open.

I'd suggest you contact a few now and check and get booked in pretty soon. In our area the Brit bars start taking bookings for Xmas day lunch as soon as the school holibobs are over and are usually fully booked by end September! So much for a recession.

Yes the club house "do" for NYE was rather expensive last year but everyone who attended said they had a good night. Again, you might find a lot of the Spanish bars will close early to have a faily celebration.

We have been to Christmas Lunch in the Casa Club on a number of occasions and it is very relaxed with great food and very good value. The food is not the traditional UK fare but then again that is exactly what we want to get away from at Christmas. I would highly recommend it and much prefer it to the cobbled together "English Traditional" dinners which are rubbish and over priced in most of the Brit bars and places up the coast. Our daughter in law in Vegeterian and was well catered for last year so that will not be an issue as long as you let them know when booking.

New Year's Eve has been really very good also in the Clubhouse and last year was absolutely brilliant. Food has always been fantastic for NYE and given that the price includes welcome drinks, all the (excellent quality) wine that you can drink, soft drinks, beers and three drinks with mixers plus entertainment, first class food (7 courses normally), cava and grapes plus party hats etc and entertainment until 5/6am with snacks served around 2.30 am I have always been happy to pay. You save money on taxis as you can wander home in your bare feet after all the dancing and there is no place like the Clubhouse where you can watch the fireworks from Torrevieja to Cartagena to Murcia from the rooftop.

I would highly recommend it as a great night out among some really nice people - last year was around 70 euro a head which was excellent value as you don't have to put your hand in your pocket apart from a tip for the staff at the end of an epic night!

Maybe we will see you there this year

Mandy

Thanks for th info Mandy - it's good to know the clubhouse is catering for veggies.

And you've made my mouth water refaring the NYE do! may even consider it ourselves for this year as we aren't going away!

Does anyone know when the Clubhouse starts taking bookings for NYE and how to make a booking as we are not over in Roda until New Year?
