Hi Mrsubby
We have a penthouse in the Block right next to you.
We are over from 15/10-18/10 and would be happy to show you a couple of very good furniture places if you can wait until then?

For local shops try Muebles Mar Menor in Los Alcazares or DFS or Bastida for up market in San Javier. But literally lots of furniture shops round and about, depends what you are looking for.
the Bed Specialists in La Zenia for beds etc.
For outside furniture, Inside Out in San Javier has very good choice

And of course the ubiquitous Ikea in Murcia - where you will get all your plates, glasses, bedding etc etc
They also sell furniture and beds too of course although you'll have to arrange delivery

Hi
Have you thought of furnishing it with furniture from the UK?
We did this and it worked very well for us.
We were quite particular about the style of furniture that we wanted so shopping back home meant that we could go to all of the shops that we knew and liked.
We got some great bargains in the end of summer sales and had them all delivered to a Big Yellow storage unit.
Once it was all there we shopped around for a removal company to deliver it for us. We were amazed at how many small removal companies go to Spain on a regular basis. With all the savings that we made on sale purchases we more than covered the cost of the delivery.
The van left England and we flew out a few days later to receive it. One delivery with the whole contents of our 2 bed apartment in it. Bedding, crockery, kids toys, tool kits – the lot.
Its easier to get all of the electricals in Spain though.
Its ok if you are going to get most (or all) of your furniture from one spanish shop, however, if its coming from a few shops it can get a bit tricky coordinating deliveries and having someone there to receive them.
Anyway – good luck however you do it and welcome to the Roda community. Its a fantastic place.

Hello Asrib.
What a great idea!
We have just done a ten night stint in the area and covered nearly 700km.
We are quite particular about style and quality too, so even choosing quality matterreses proved difficult.
I will centainly look into this in detail, I would want to do my own painting, fitting curtain poles, light fittings, hanging mirrors etc, so can bring all the gear over in one hit. (As i am in the property maintenance trade)
It should make life a lot easier choosing (in theory), and everything you say makes sense. (All done in one bulk visit)
We Live in the North West area of UK so if anyone knows of a local company, that would also be much appreciated.
Love the chilled out feeling Roda has already.
Thanks for your kind words and great advice.

Hi Mr Subby
If you are planning on fitting your own curtain poles and light fittings then I would suggest you bring your rawl plugs / fixing bits out from the UK.
There just isn't the width of choice here in Spain - especially if you want to hang quite heavy light fittings in the ceilings. You'll need to get good expanding bolt fittings to go through the plasterboard into the ceiling void over the dining table and the ones we bought in Spain just weren't "man" enough for the job.
When doing your curtain poles, if you fix into the ceiling again you'll need good rawl plugs, and if you fix onto the wall above the patio doors / windows you'll need a good electric drill and bit. You'll be drilling into the VERY SOLID concrete lintel.
Also, the marble in the bathrooms is quite hard to drill so you'll need a specialist bit. They are available here but we wore out 2 - one in each bathroom - putting up towel rail, mirror and loo roll holder!
Regarding Man & Van. We recently used a chap based in Almoradi to deliver just a sofa bed to us. He collected from Manchester and delivered to Roda. He charged us £150 for just 1 cubic meter. It gets cheaper the more you send.
If you want his details send me a pm.
And DEFINITELY buy your electricals in Spain. Particularly your TV - as ones bought in the UK have been known to not function properly. It also means your guarantee will be here - it is unlikely a UK company would be willing to sort out any problems with fridge, washer etc when it isn't in the country.

Thanks again for the info.
We are very close to porters (5 miles)
As for the fixings cheers for that, i do this sort of thing regular and noticed the block and beam ceilings as for the marble i will bring some diamond bits over (water cooled will do the job)
Agreed on TV, fridge etc.
Thanks again for all the advice, visited Leroy merlin whilst over there but things like screws where expensive.
Looking for a company to install air con too, if anyone can reccomend anyone.
The apartment is just pre installed ducting at the moment.
Cheers.

Hi,
Have a look at The Furniture Store which is near the crazy golf and the Mar Menor golf resort (which is nowhere near the Mar Menor).
Come out of the back gate, turn left, through Roda village and left at the second roundabout, it's by where you need to turn right to the golf.
There is also a new secondhand store next to the furniture store, and another furniture store near the AP7.
This is the route to the AP7 that I use when going south to Cartagena. Also have a look at the Home shops in the Mediterano shopping centre just short of Cartagena, also Leroy Merlyn, the large Homebase style DIY shop is there (as well as Primark but why is there a need to go ther when in Spain...)
Ikea is usefull but don't forget it's MFI self assembly and things like dining chairs won't be as strong as ready assembled furniture that is glued.
Shop around - I just bought a beach chair for 25 euro's in Da Costa in the square which was 30 and 34 euros in the nearest chinese supermarkets for the same thing.
Mike.
