You could also drive to the Mar Menor mud pools which may not be great for kids but you will love it and the beach and sea is 20 meters opposite and the water is so shallow and warm! Easy to find, drive back to San Javier airport, stay on the AP-7 around San Javier and take turn off at 774 and take the second turn off at the roundabout ( the road is called Ctra Tramo de Union) and drive straight down over the roundabouts for about 5 minutes. At the end if the beach to the right and on the left is the mud baths - you have to park up and walk.
