Hi All

Any recommendations for a Spanish bank account with minimal charges? I understand all will charge for almost everything (deposits, etc) and they're a lot more expensive than the UK but which is the most reasonable?

Thank you! smiley

Hi We use Banco sabadell they charge €24 per quarter. So far they seem good, the Web Access and app are all in English. There is also now a branch opened up in roldan ear the El Arbol supermarket.

I opened an account with Deutsche Bank is Los Alcazares. They have online and telephone banking in English, German and Spanish. I also have an English speaking personal manager.

I haven't had any charges yet but will give you the low down after I meet with my personal manager on 6th April.

We use Sabadell bank. I registered with one in Orihuella Costa, but regularly visit the branch in Los Alcazares.  The staff speak excellent Engljsh and I have always found them to be very helpful. They charge €24 per quarter. You can set up free national and international exchanges and direct debits. They offer online, mobile and telephone banking - all very easy to use. There is a local branch in Roldan, the staff are friendly but do not speak English.

I visited Deutsche Bank in Los Alcazares today and was pleased with the meeting.

They set up our internet banking and put us through to the call centre to complete the set up while we were there. They also arranged our debit cards which we could have posted out to us or collect on our next visit.

The account, internet banking, debit cards, cash withdrawals, payments and transfers etc are free as long as we deposit at least €600 per month and have at least 2 direct debits on the account. If we don't fulfill these conditions, the cost is €20 for each quarter the conditions aren't met.

There was a cheaper account option at €12 per quarter with no requirements for minimum deposits or number of direct debits but there were additional charges for debit cards, cash withdrawals at other banks, payments and transfers etc.

The best option would really depend on whether you needed that debit card / cash facility and how often you needed to make payments and transfers.

Internet banking provides all the expected features and is easy to use although occasionally some messages are in Spanish. It allows you to set up free SMS alerts for things like payments over a certain amount etc. There is also a mobile app for android or apple which I haven't tried yet.

All in all, looks good so far.
