Sadly  this morning - I had to help an owner at Hacienda who had some items stolen from his hire car.

For your future reference - instead of the previous 'nightmare situation', whereby you would personally have to go to the police station ( often queue for hours) to report any theft or loss - a new system has been introduced -

You can call 902 102 112, and make the denucia over the phone.

You will be asked, by a fluent English speaker all of the details of the robbery or loss, giving your name, UK address, passport number etc.

This information is then sent through to the nearest national police station, where you need to go in person, with your passport & the crime reference number you were given over the phone.You will then be given a written copy of the report, which they & you have to sign, and of course - this is the document you will need to provide to your insurance company if you are making a claim.

For any of you who have had the misfortune to have needed to do a denuncia - you will be aware of the good news this is!!!!!!

Sometjing more than a little disconcerting about the aftermath of these car robberies is that according to the administrators office - the insurance policy for the community ( as opposed to individual owners home content insurance) - DOES NOT cover theft from cars in the communal garage.

I am trying to find more out about this - as I personally find this inadequate cover.

How else are you supposed to be insured for something stolen from the garage?

Will update you on this as soon as I know more.
