can anybody tell me what satellite the existing spanish system is working off . eg.: Hotbird astra etc. I would like to do some research and find out what exactly would be available if I were to scan with a technomate reciever,

I phoned the company which installed the dishes at “La Hacienda de Mijas Golf” in order to get information about them and I was informed that the dishes point at 19,2º East. They did not inform me whether 19,2º East points at Astra 1 or 2 but according to what I have been researching on the internet it seems that it points to Astra 1.

I have Technomate 1550 at my appartment and have flashed the memory with the latest software, I have experimented here in wales and conected up to the hotbird sat. I picked up lots of different chanels  as long as there was a 50% singnal it won't only be canal tv that transmits and it might be supprising what you can receive. I will have a look at the maplin receiver and ask some question in some forums. it might be a short term solution until the sat. issue is resolved.

A  few news channels and euro sport is available with FTA, follow this lnk to view all channels on astra 19 you may notice that BBC prime is available but I'm not sure if it is free www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html
I can apparently get more with Technomate if I download certain software have a look at www.digitalworlz.com you can read all about satellite receivers and what you can get for nothing, I will be over in june and will be attempting to see what is available. Thanks for your input

Lidl's in the UK are selling a portable sat dish & reciever for only £60. I am not too sure what exactly it'll pick up in Southern Spain as its not a large dish but it might be better than nothing. It comes in a handy carry case & its easily set up & dismantled.

I UNDERSTAND EVERONES FRUSTRATION AT STILL NOT HAVING SATELLITE INSTALLED - BUT - IF ALL GOES ACCORDING TO PLAN - INSTALLATION OF THE SYSTEM SHOULD COMMENCE AT HACIENDA DURING THE 1ST WEEK OF JUNE - SO HOLD FIRE - BEFORE YOU GO SPENDING UNNECESSARILY !!

What is the plan for the installation and do you have a rough cost? The dishes that are already installed are picking up astra 19.2, this sat only has a few English speaking news channels. So it looks like separate dishes etc will be needed for a proper UK channels installation
