I have heard that the local festival is a good time, does anyone know the dates for the festival. i know it is normally some time in august and the last day is normally the best with loads of free wine flowing.

Dave
Hope you and Charmaine are well and not affected by the floods down there !!
Linda Needham posted this a few weeks back
"The dates for the August fiesta in Jumilla according to the Murcia Tourist Board are as follows:
Fiestas de la Vendimia
The fiestas begin with the treading of the first grapes in Jumilla¿s Plaza Mayor, which then gives way to a week of festivities and open-air parties, all related to the town's main industrial activity; wine-tasting competition; wine cavalcade, offering of the first must, and parades of Moors and Christians.
Declared of Regional Tourist Interest
Dates to be held: From the 10th to the 19th of august of 2007.
The night everyone goes to get wine thrown at them is the last Saturday in the fiesta week so 18th August"
Hope you have a great time if you plan a visit.
regards
Darren & Michelle

Hi Dave,
We are also going to be there and staying with Linda Needham, we are hoping to meet up with Kevin and Vera there also.
We are going for the last night so should be a laugh and good experience according to Linda.

The way the it works is that if you do not wish to take part but only want to watch you were normal clothes but not a white T shirt and stand back a bit from the roads. If you want to get stuck in and literally go with the flow you normally wear your oldest clothes, anything that can be thrown away, including underwear and shoes. Mostly everyone has on an old white T shirt as that is how they identify who is taking part and who isnt. I am not sure where the best place to stand is this year as a lot of the roads are closed for road works. Normally we hang around Mercadona. Hose each other down in the car wash afterwards and have clean clothes in the car/hotel and a towel or two.
Be prepared to have wine coloured hair and purple feet afterwards.
