We have just come back from Spain having just moved in to phase 1, La Recoleta. I can confirm that there is a satellite dish on the roof of every block, a TV aerial and a 'mesh' receiver. We had a leaflet in our buyers pack telling us that the 'Mesh' receiver had been installed foc and that we could connect to 'satellite' via this aerial, price of connection is 490 Euros (includes digibox and card) and also a limited offer of 48 Euro discount on the MONTHLY subscription if paid a year in advance WOW! what a bargain! They don't say how much the actual subscription to sky is. www.micromesh.tv also try torresatilte tv (La zenia for a mesh connection) here is the reply from torresatelite when asked for a quote back in April
The Cost for a new connection for an appartment is:
240 Installation
90 Digital Box
180 Annual Fee
A Deposit of 75€ in Cash is required and the rest of the Money is to be paid
to the Technician.
Several residents seem to have put dishes in 'gardens' these would need to be removed according to the community secretary. Permission must be obtained in order to put up your own dish on the roof. I have asked the secretary how you connect to the communal dish.
Insofar as connections in the apartment go there is one TV socket (Lounge, kitchen and Bedroon), I connected a DVB tv and got several TV and radio freeview channels with no problems (altough they seemed to change from one day to the next). There is a radio connection (Lounge, kitchen and bedroom) AND a blank plate, I took the cover off the plate and there is nothing behind it except some trunking that goes who knows where! Lets assume it goes up to the roof and you can get a cable up thro' it to connect to the communal dish.
Now I have seen the communal dish and whilst we were there 2 more dishes were put up, (according to Mr Morato with permission) which are effectively private connections. If everyone did this there would be in excess of 20 dishes on the roof, there is not enough space for any more so it seems first come first served! Not very community spirited.
When I get a definate answer on how to connect I'll add to the post, unless someone else can enlighten us already.
See construction photos for yourself!
RE Broadband: Mr Morato tells me that there is only one telephone company in the area - telefonica so you need a landline to get ADSL or dial up, radio is an option he says but not as good and about the same price. I'd rather go to the Internet Cafe and pay a couple of euros for checking emails and so on until things settle down. I am sure other option will appear in time.
