We will be probably be completing before Christmas and have been informed we will need an NIE before that? Can we start the process from Ireland? Thanks.

Fionnuala.,
The answer is on this web site here
My Spanish Lawyer arranged mine - as it was needed for opening a bank account.
But the article here has made me appreciate that I ought to have the certificate - and my lawyer never sent this to me !
regards,
Paul

Hi we found it no problem at all, just left it to our lawyer and when we were over went with her, took about three quarters of an hour, paid our money and that was that. It then takes about two weeks before the laywer had the certificates, she then scanned them to us for information. I think you can do it from your home town but it is more difficult as I understand you have to visit a spanish consulate and it takes longer, but it seems you have some time on your hands, so you should be able to do it from home. Your lawyer will tell you how to go about it. Regards Mimmie

Hi Fionnuala,
You can go to the Spanish Consulate in Dublin, and fill out an application form. You will receive your NIE number by post three to four months later.
It has been a while since I did mine, but I seem to remember the Consulate have very restricted opening hours. Phone them first, and they will tell you exactly what you need to bring with you.

Thank you for all your help, I will check with our lawyer first, but may be as easy to visit the embassy here. This site is invaluable! We just can't wait to complete now, it seems like forever.
