We were very upset with a recent incident which occurred when we had tenants in our touriste apartment at El Rincon. I was very ill in hospital in the UK when an ex colleague contacted my husband to ask if there was a chance of renting our apartment for 4 days in Sept. My poor husband was very fraught with worry and agreed. These young people moved in and absolutely loved the place and said how friendly the neighbours were - they enjoyed the pool - everything. One day the doorbell rang and a "lady" stood there and demanded that my guests remove their towels from the balcony. Not a friendly request but a real "jobs worth" attitude! The young lady tried to explain that they were terribly sorry and yes of course they would but they had not been made aware of this regulation. The "lady" said that well they should know as it is in the "book of rules" and suggested they read them. Our guest explained that they were letting and they wre sure we had just overlooked to tell them. It was our fault and yes we do know that this is a proviso - but "book of rules" is a slight exaggeration. When we got the deeds of property there was an enclose pointing out rules and regulations and we fully intend sticking by these and putting a copy in the apartment. What would have been nice would have been a friendly request from the "lady" concerned instead of the all guns blazing approach. Our guest was really upset and commented that for our sake she hoped all our neighbours were not like that and were more welcoming! I assured her that when we were down at the apartment in July everyone was really friendly. I would also like to apologise on this site and assure all neighbours that we are not the sort of people to knowingly flout the rules and hope that the concerned neighbour was perhaps having a bad day.

Firstly and most importantly I hope you are now on the road to recovery.
Secondly I think everyone needs to realise that any "rules " are not rules that we the owners have actually agreed to, I for one bought an apartment from a builder with certain specifications and as no "Rule Book" was part of the deal and I will not get my deeds and therefore "Rule Book" for a few months then who knows what havoc I might cause, maybe I might wear the wrong colour speedos down by the pool or let my son play on a Lilo or even have a kick around with a beach ball !!!
Do not let those who wish they could have bought into an idylic, peaceful 5star luxury complex upset you or your friends, these apartments are holiday homes to some, holiday lets to others and maybe permanent homes to a few, with around 224 apartments in EL Rincon there will be occasions when someone comes back late from the pub a bit louder than most of us would want, there will be the boyfriend and girlfriend augument that keeps us awake into the early hours and god forbid someone might dry their towels on the balcony, but most of the time we will have great sunshine, a fab time in the pool meet nice pleasant neighbours and long for when we can next visit.
I hope you are not too troubled by what happened and that some of the above makes sense, if not don't worry, my six year old son will soon divert all attention away from anything any future tenants may get up to.
Take care

Hi all
Yeah, I fully agree with Scrufty, some people usually living there treat the place like a retirement home and don’t realize that it’s a holiday home for most, where people go to get away from working life and worries for a week or two and have fun, and one too many.
We all probably break the rules and don’t know it, but if you think I am going to sit down for an hour out of my holiday time to rear a rulebook, well no.
Rules are mostly just common sense but you will get the jobs worth thinking they are park warden doing daft things because they have nothing better to do.
We are out there in two weeks so I might hang a towel over the balcony and reel the sad fish in for a bit of a chat. Ho Ho
Hope you are on the way to being fighting fit Evostick

Thank you Col and Bev! I did not want to make a big thing out of this but I wa upset that our tenants were made to feel so guilty! At first they thought the lady was joking, but then they realised that she was deadly serious. Our daughters stayed in it in July and were made to feel really welcome and we came and sat by the pool with them a couple of times and everyone was really friendly! We actually stay at our house at Entre Naranjos and this apartment is mostly for rental - we will however stay in it ourselves from time to time when the house is rented out and we look forward to it and meeting our neighbours. We feel privileged to own property in such a lovely country but some people are never happy eh?! Never mind grip over now!!

I don't see how yo can have RULES unless you have had a handover meeting??
In your deeds there will be some specification, but 'rules' are agreed by the Community at a meeting.
Having said all that, when the 'rules' are formulated and agreed, there is a way of making sure they are adhered to, which is NOT they way that you have refered to !!
A smile and a little friendliness costs nothing and a polite request is worth a lot!! We all need to live in harmony, and yes, some of us do live here all the time, and yes, holiday makers are here to have fun........................but not at everyone elses expense!!
RESPECT is what we need and CONSIDERATION.

Hi guys
After all the reassurances to Evostick that the treatment her tenants received was out of order and why was the towels situation such a big deal, I have to confess that having taken ownership of our property at long last (2 1/2 years wait), I was a little disappointed to walk out onto the balcony at night ( I arranged for the swimming pool lights to go on so you can all thank me later ) to see towels draped over the balcony of one of the apartments, they did this for nearly a week and they were on the top floor.
So needless to say I did nothing about it as I didn't want to upset anyone but maybe it worth being aware, that from across the glorious pool area it doesn't look too good.
Maybe others think differently, let me know.

I know the towel thingy can look a bit nit picking, but at La Mirada, we made it a Community rule that towels/washing could not
be hung over balconies. The odd person still does it, but it does look such a mess. All our rules are displayed in each
apartment but it falls to the Presidente to enforce the rules.
I'm not sure how much the Community will thank you for getting the pool lights on at night scrufty, when the Community
recieves the electric bill, and I think your Comm Fees are high enough!!
About friendly neighbours, you have some REALLY friendly neighbours don't you.
Enjoy your stay !!

Karen
Do you really think our fees are high ? I thought 54 euros a month was quite reasonable.
Anyway I know where the light switch is for the pool lights so once everyone has enjoyed the view I can always switch them off, plus as this is already included in the community fees why not enjoy the view !
