I haven't completed yet, but there is stamp duty on the purchase price +IVA and there is also stamp duty payable on the mortgage amount too (who said it was cheaper in Spain???). I believe this only applies to a new mortgage and not subrogating the builder's mortgage. Noreen could probably help as she completed last week, but I believe she is in Spain at the moment.

Yes, we paid stamp duty twice because we did not take the builders mortgage.

We only paid once due to taking on the builders mortgage, which suited our purposes at the time due to just setting up a new business and not having full accounts yet.  Obviously, the additional bonus was that we didnt have to pay this tax again.
