Hi all,
We're coming out for the New Year and were wondering what happens in the village for New Years Eve etc.
We've heard that the Spanish also make a big fuss on the 6th of Jan too, but don't know why????

Hi
Not 100% on this but we were in Lanzarote last year and I think Christmas Eve is celebrated bigger than Christmas day, dinners parties etc. And New Years is also very big with some sort of tradition where you have to eat grapes, can't wait to be there for them but there dosen't seem too much info on what's happening around Hurchillo. I've posted a few things on EOS but no replies
January 6th, the date the Wise Men/ Three Kings gave gifts to Jesus. On the Eve of January 5th, children place their shoes on the doorstep, and in the secret of the night, the Three Wise Men/Kings pass leaving gifts. Just like Father Christmas.
Hope this helps a bit
Kev

Hi there,
We too are out for Christmas and the new year, coming out on the 14th December returning on the 7th Jan, we are not sure if anything is happening for the New Year, but probably people will get together to celebrate. The Spanish tradition is to eat 12 grapes, one on each chime leading up to midnight, for good luck.
We have been told that they have a Christmas eve family meal, then next is the New years Eve family meal, then the 6th Jan when they give and receive presents. It will be different, but hey thats why we will be in Spain, I do not think that they have the commercial side that we have in England, but that probably will not be a bad thing.
Looking forward to seeing old and new neighbours for a drink or two!

WAS IN EROSKI ON SATURDAY EVENING AND WAS QUITE SURPRISED AT ALL THE XMAS DECORATIONS THAT WERE ON OFFER. THIS IS OUR FIRST XMAS IN SPAIN AND I SORT OF DIDNT KNOW HOW BIG A DEAL XMAS WAS OUT HERE AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT I AM PLEASED PEOPLE MAKE A FUSS OF THE FESTIVE SEASON HERE TOO AS I DO LOVE XMAS BACK IN N IRELAND AND WAS WORRIED I WOULD MISS ALL THE HYPE ( ALTHOUGH WE DO GET A LOAD OF MOANING PEOPLE IN THE SHOP COMPLAINING THAT IT IS TOO MUCH LIKE THE UK HERE). Love the santa but i hope he doesnt drink too much of the beer or he will be getting too fat to go through the door never mind the chimneys. Will keep you informed if i hear anything. Weather good at moment but i think rain is forecast for next week which is not so good as i have family coming out but i suppose we have to take the bad with the good at times.
