we are over in Roda for the whole of February and wondered if anyone knew of good car rental deals to be had locally for a 28 day period rather then booking at the airport online from the UK. Not sure if we will achieve much saving but any ideas would be welcome.

Chris

Thanks to all for your replies and suggestions, have tried all recommended site including carjet and cartrawler both of which I have used before.

For info and perhaps for others I ended up with Victoria cars at 260 euros for 28 day hire whilst doyouspain was similar they were both a little cheaper than others, price variations can be quite large so worth looking around.

I don´t know if your quote from Victoria includes no excess as some of the excess fees from car hire companies are considerable and worth looking into as they are not apparent until you go along to sign for the car and it could be too late.

We got a great excess policy for one year for around 60sterling from travelsupermarket.com which ensures that you have no excess charges to pay when you hire cars and as we are out and in to Spain regularly and were recently in Italy it can save up to 11 euros a day which is what some companies charge to bring the excess to zero ie comprehensive insurance on the hire car.

Maybe you already know this but thought that it would be helpful.

I used Doyou this time and got a basic hyundai 5 door with air con for 104 euros for 10 days - pllus 20 euros for the all embracing excess and 50 euros for a tank of petrol - was this a good deal?

Hi All - Do carjet meet you at Murcia or do you have to queue up at the car hire desk.  ? We would much prefer to be met by someone in the arrivals lounge - Any advice would be greatly received !  And other car hire companies anyone recommends ?! Thanks

Hi all.

We use Victoria rent a car and evrething is included yes you pay for the patrol but you can bring it back emty. Also you have full cover and when we bring our car beck they dont even take a look at the car just smile and say good bay :) The onley thing that i was afreid of was that they have a car out side the airport but that is ok, evrething was fine and the price is a big bonus.

I neglected to mention that I also took out an excess insurance cover with www.insurance4carhire.com  at a cost of £49 for annual European rental, useful if you are travelling and renting often and the policy covers the Excess on theft, damage,, windows, tyres, undercarriage and roof and supplements LDW/CDW which is normally included.

From what I gather you pay any excesses locally then reclaim with 30 days. It is the policyholder that is insured, not the vehicle so you can decline the rental comany's excess insurance at the counter.

From experience most of the online agents such as carjet and cartrawler, doyouspain all use local companies such as Centauro, Goldcar, Solmar etc  based at Murcia terminal so you should have no probs, they obviously negotiate rates.           I think Victoria's office is in carpark straight outside the terminal, so very handy. Certainly on this occasion Victoria was best deal.

I think all companies charge for full tank and ask for empty return unless under 4 days hire, understandably their charge is higher than self fill.

The desks all get busy as normally a few planes arrive together so worth letting the wife collect the heavy bags whilst you queue at the desk. as it is before customs for what they are worth.

Carjet will find you the cheapest car hire for those dates usually one of the companies at the airport eg Sol Mar

Whichever one it is that week has the biggest queue as most people hiring seem to use Carjet
