We have just returned from our visit to Manilva Beach for what was to be a 'relaxing' break. Not a chance!! Upon arrival, the two apartments we own had no electricity, despite the assurances from everyone's favourite Spanish solicitor. Being stranded with no electric (and no water in one apartment in phase two) and having our four year old daughter in tow, we contacted the agent who sold us the property (who shall remain nameless). The Duquesa office response was 'you need to speak to Luigi, he isn't here'. Very helpful. Then we contacted the UK travel office in the hope that they could at least help us organise temporary accommodation. Although they were fully aware of our intended visit as we had organised car hire through them, the usual 'there's nothing we can do' was wheeled out. We finally got hold of Claire at the completions office, her attitude was disgraceful, basically insinuating it was our fault and tough.
After several attempts, we did finally get hold of Luigi and in all fairness, he did what he could and suggested various numbers to call. Fortunately, I had already contacted a former employee of the nameless selling agent who has set up his own leisure and rental agency in Duquesa. He organised accommodation for us within 15 minutes and was an absolute godsend. Without him, I don't know what we would have done.
After being left to contact the electric company ourselves, the electricity problem was sorted a week into our 10 day visit so we at least managed three nights in one of our own apartments.
The plus side of the experience is that we have had the opportunity to see the full picture in Spain. Personally, I thought that the finish in Phase 2 of Manilva Beach was pretty good and that snagging will be relatively minor. The problem is that with the ongoing completion of Manilva Beach properties and the development (very slow I must add) of Manilva Gardens, the dust levels are very high and so everything looks dirty. I'm sure, given time, the Manilva Beach site will be a good location for holidaying and after speaking to a few locals, they were all of the opinion that within 3 - 4 years rental potential could be quite respectable.
