LONG AND SHORT TERM RENTALS IN FUENGIROLA AND MIJAS COSTA WANTED

Has anyone any ideas which is the best bank to use in Spain for general banking etc. Would appreciate any tips from anyone having any knowledge or experience on this subject.  We use Currency Direct for transferring money but as yet no Spanish bank account, and completion is getting nearer.

I opened a bank account with the Halifax, then Halifaxbanco.es.  You can transfer monies from your English bank account to your Spanish bank account free of any charges. I must say though I have transfered my final payment via HaloFinances due to how the exchange rate is going.

 With your spanish halifax bank account you can ring a central number where everybody speaks english or go on- line to organise your own finances.  Also the branch I have is in Mazzaron which doesn't make it too far when you are out there.

I am looking for a good bank in Spain myself and Halifax is a possible option, but be aware they may not charge to transfer funds to your account in Spain but the exchange rate isn’t good.

Anyone any other suggestions of good banks?

I've opened an account with CAM ( www.cam.es )   Many because the internet banking site is in english.

For thos of you who have opened a Halifax account can you let me know if you can do this from the UK or did you have to go to Spain? I tried to open an account with CAM but you need to visit in person and I don't have time to go to Spain before completion

We have just opened an euro and sterling account with Cam bank and we didnt need to go to spain to do it.

Debbie - is there a specific number you called CAM on? The person I dealt with told me I needed to apply in person and obviously that's not the case!

Hi all,   i'm in the process of getting all the paperwork done to apply for a Cam mortgage, could somebody advise me on the credit report they require, is it just the statutory report or the main experian report that costs £14.95 per person they need.

If you go on to the Experian website, you can sign up for a free 30 day trial which enables you to obtain your credit report.  As long as you e-mail them to cancel the free trial period before the end of the 30 days, it does not cost you anything.  You will then save on the £14.95 fee mentioned below in this thread.  It might only be £30.00 per couple, but that might buy a set of drawers for the wardrobes as Polaris World are not supplying them!   Every penny counts at the moment!

Hi Debbie, did you send the statutory credit report that costs £2 to Cam bank for your mortgage, is this all they need. Also did you need to buy your credit score for it. It's getting confusing.

Hi Chris,

The report I sent to them was the full credit report - not sure whether it is known as the statutory credit report,  but it definitely excluded the credit scoring report.  CAM Bank have acknowledged receipt of the documents and have confirmed that this is all they require.  Hope this helps.

A note for those who are still undecided about who to get their mortgage through

My solicitor dropped me a line on Friday to mention that the Barclays Bank in the Puerto de Mazarron are offering packages for those purchasing at Condado.  She seems to think that they are offering better conditions than CAM bank.

I've not looked myself but thought I'd mention it. Might be worth comparing.  She gave me an email address for those who might be interested in finding out more.  PM me if you would like the address.
