Just checked with the satellite company and the current understanding is this :

All the infrastructure currently exists for both satellite and TV reception to the apartments.  We have plugged in a TV to the ariel socket and received spanish channels without any problems.  If I had a decoder box and plugged into the sat socket I'd get the extra spanish satellite channels in the same way.  As each block has it's own dish the installed cabling, independent of portal or level, should be usable for another dish installation.   DHS can install a separate dish capable of picking up the UK channels and swop over the connections on the roof to our apartments.   The price they are quoting is 350 euros for the dish and 150 euros for the splitter box so that 4 apartments can be feed from the dish.  Maximum is 4 otherwise the signal strength is diluted resulting in poor reception.  Once the kit is installed they need access to each connected apartment to check that all is OK.  We just need to agree between ourselves who is connected, decide who will hold the funds, and arrange for the work to be done.  I plan to buy a decoder box in the UK which can be used in Spain for about £50 but you can buy a box from DHS for 250 euros if that suits you.

Hi Melwell  Those prices sound good,there will also be the charge for connecting to individual boxes ,I supppose the farther from the dish the more costly.Cannot speak for the others Colin /Jan  and Jon /Sue but you can count Ken Lynn  in. WE already have the decoder ,when are you thinking of ordering ,that can be the only problem ie all at the apartments to allow the guy in and test,and we are not over untill the 15th June

did anybody speak to the guy i posted who did mine.  decoder only around 40 euros from carrefour.  i have dish on block11 ready to share.  The length of cable to each individual apt can add a bit but thats because of position of the roof access. only one access per block not  per set of stairs.  i have no problems with mine, even in rainy weather. very happy. if i take my sky box from home  i get the full package no problems too

I am still a little bemused about the sat situation.  We were told by Paul Cox that there would be a selection of european stations into each apartment.  Is this not know the case.

Hi Peps....yes I did call 'Joseph'....he came over and looked at where we were situated, but said that it was not possible to connect to your dish....due to the location of the two blocks......but Thank You for the kind offer. he then went into detail about the way he would install ours....from ground up....which confused me somewhat...and the price he quoted for the cable was very high.....when I finished the conversation with him, the English electrician ( a resident ) who was doing some work for us then recommended DHS...as they have a good reputation and have done quite a bit of work in the Duquesa port and surrounding areas.....we visited them in their showroom in Estepona....thus why we are hoping to use them.

They ( DHS)  did tell us to be vigilant about how many peole connect to any one persons dish....as the signal will become diluted....so not sure how many you can be kind to.....

yes, there was some discussion with the length of cable.  Make sure you get good quality cable too as some put in standard and half the signal strength is lost apparently.  He did tell me each individual block would have to be quoted according to wiring.  He said that the wiring by the developer runs down into the car parks and across so not necesarily easier to be top floor than bottom.  cost me an extra 80 euros for the extra wire but i got juan out whilst he was there and he confirmed the way the channeling is for the cable.  I have no visible cable now sky is installed so was happy.  I suppose everybody will find different problems/solutions.   The share of the dish is ok for four and maybe 8 if good quality cable is used (what a lot of community dishes use he said).

Paul, the apartments can receive spanish terrestrial tv and some spanish sat with correct de-coder but nothing for english channels. Sounds like a 'play on words' when selling apts!.   I thoroughly investigated this to avoid the problems with the dishes etc.  Although developers say satellite is connected to each apt they only mean some spanish channels and never make provision for english ones.

I think maybe if completion on the site would have been straight forward and all together, we would have a community set up and a collective solution to all these things. I.e community dishes etc.  But no, as usualy, we have to bloody sort it out ourselves. 

At least we are learning how to build our own home in spain almost!

Gorilla, I believe you are about to complete in block 7. The fourth member we thought wanted to share the sat dish installation hasn't responded, and I have been told that you would like a slice of the dish !!

hello , apartment owners , to confirm all owners will be charged the same price no matter how far you are away from the system , only fair.  i think ,  no more private dishes will be allowed to be installed on the community areas , and the dishes on blocks 6 and 11 would the owners please get intouch i need to remove them , but dont worry you will be connected to my system free of charge , with a 3 year warrenty  i have 22 years experence on the costa del sol and have installed over 60 community systems in the past year alone ,  one dish per block will give you all you require , regards thomas

just to inform you i have installed a satellite system in la noria 4 feeding 90 apartments from one dish , also in lunamar alto 98 from one dish without any problems  of signal , and i would never charge extra for a long cable run , any way the max cable run in your blocks is 30 meters , this is nothing compared to 157 meters in la noria 4 , regards thomas
