Best (and cheapest!) car hire I've found is through www.Doyouspain.com - they cover the whole country and all of the airports.

Ditto here, Steve, my mate (How r u both ?)
www.doyouspain.com are the best we've dealt with & no cancellation charges at any time (unlike a few we checked out)
I recall once, we had booked a car through them some time before we flew & then forgot we had so we booked another & turned up at same counter we would have done to get the other car. The chap seemed bemused as he said "you don't want this other car, then ?" We do still check around for every new rental date but invariably go back to www.doyouspain.com

Hi
I like Centauro. Did shop around but find them brilliant. So easy at Murcia and you don't have to go on mini buses away from the airport. Wouldn't use anyone else. Also you can speedy book all your details online to save even more time.

Take Care Driving in Spain
Drivers, especially on the M30 and M40 Madrid ring roads, the A4 and A5 should be wary of approaches by bogus policeman, in plain clothes and travelling in unmarked cars. In all traffic-related matters police officers will be in uniform. Unmarked vehicles will have a flashing electronic sign on the rear window which reads "Policia" or "Guardia Civil", and normally have blue flashing lights incorporated into the headlights, which are activated by the Police when they stop you. In non-related traffic matters police officers may be in plain clothes but in any case members of the public have the right to ask police officers to identify themselves. The Guardia Civil or Police will ask you to show them your documents only and do not request that you hand over your bag or wallet. If in any doubt, drivers should converse through the car window and contact the Guardia Civil on 062 or the Spanish National Police on 112 and ask them to confirm that the registration number of the vehicle corresponds to an official police vehicle.
At Malaga Airport robbers are particularly targeting rental vehicles on the exit road and nearby highways by indicating that there is a problem with the vehicle's tyres. When the vehicle stops the robbers will offer assistance and take advantage of distractions to steal bags, etc from the interior of the vehicle. Within the Barcelona urban area thieves are also employing this ‘punctured tyre’ tactic at traffic lights in order to distract and stop tourists.
More information can be obtained from th british embassy website

Hi everyone - a new query for this thread. I am moving out permanently next year and have a 1 yr old VW Polo. I have two alternatives:
- pack up all my belongings and driving to my house near Torrevieja and using my UK car there for a few months until I get my new business up and running. I will then lease a Spanish car for the business and sell my Polo. Not sure what kind of price I would get for a UK car but have seen ads targetted at people returning to the UK.
or
- selling my Polo in the UK, flying out and renting a car for a few months in Spain, then leasing the car for the business. Would also need to pay for a small removal (just clothes and some minor household items like pictures etc, as my house is fully furnished already).
Is anyone able to advise on the comparative costs for my two options? Would I save enough by taking my own car out with me to offset the hassle of driving on the wrong side of the road? Would I get more or less for the car in Spain than in the UK?
Hope someone can advise!

Sell the polo in the UK you will get more for it here. Depending on the size of the pictures and the amount of clothing one of the parcel companies or part load companies may be suitable

Hi Clair t
I think that Conrad is right, in the fact of selling your car in the Uk is the better option, and privately as well to get you the best price, unless you have a friend in the motor trade who might sell it for you.
As far as getting your personal bits down to Spain it might be worth looking in the local Papers (spanish) for someone coming down with an empty vehicle.
Another option would be to buy a car in Spain and drive over to pick up your personals, bear in mind the £400 return trip costs, but the satisfaction of knowing all your goods are safe.

Thanks to both of you - will take your advice and sell the car before I move.
I am trying very hard to take this opportunity to de-clutter so having to pay for a removal should be extra motivation. Hopefully I won't need all my Scottish winter woolies and raincoats.
Time to hit the car boot sales I think!
