A quick question is it ok to take a set of kitchen knives from UK to spain in hold luggage or would they be deemed a dangerous weapon?

I could understand in the cabin walk on luggage but you dont have access to the hold luggage during the trip.
We took a sky hd box via hand luggage last trip and dint get stopped and I am sure a large electronic box full of wires etc could easily be considered something else.
Although they did spot the hd projector in the other cabin bag and stripped that bag and rescanned !!

Projectors have been used as suicide bombs before, who took to much notice of someone walking about taking photos...Then Bang.

Incidentally, I've left nail scissors in the cabin luggage by mistake which have gone through, and I've even been allowed to take knitting needles in my cabin luggage, which is actually a bit worrying...
But I would say there's no problem with the knives in a hold bag - I've taken that kind of thing in hold bags before. I presume windtalker thought you meant 'cabin bag' and not 'hold bag.'

I took a kitchen knife in my hold luggage last year but did get called back to baggage screening to open my case. They wanted to check it was properly protected (it was still in its plastic packaging from new). Was told they had to check it wouldn't move about in the case and potentially cut through the suitcase fabric which would obviously be a danger to baggage handlers. Hope this helps.
