Good post Juan Miguel! The figure of 56% of young people unemployed in any country is a national scandal bordering on criminal. The responsibility for this shameful statistic lies firmly with an uncaring, selfish government.
This government conducts its affairs in a most amateur and alarming manner. It refuses to recognise the massive problems that are building up in Spain and the dark clouds that are forming over Europe. It seems that they are reluctant to face the truth and wish to remain firmly rooted in the past, refusing to accept change. We read daily of new legislation being passed based on financial punishment for offenders, yet changes to encourage employment are ignored.
Clearly the new laws are designed to provide an income desperately needed as all the previous efforts to pull Spain out of the doldrums have failed. If a normal business runs out of money and has no asset or hope it can’t get funding and it dies. The government just raises taxes and increases fines to survive despite having no asset or hope of getting through the mess.
The only way that Spain can ever recover is to generate jobs, and fast - but the enshrined employment laws are so complicated, time consuming and costly, that they are a huge deterrent to any would be employers, resulting in an upward spiralling black economy.
One idea for a fast way forward is:
- Simplify the crazy business licensing system which is a huge deterrent especially to non-Spanish entrepreneurs.
- Strip back the ancient employment laws and reign in the ‘fines system’ for businesses.
- Give incentives to employers e.g. laws and systems will remain in place for 10 years without sudden change to suit the government’s predicament.
- Provide business with guarantees of financial safety in Spain.
- Reduce paperwork to a minimum.
- Encourage ‘foreigners’ to generate employment in Spain
- Set up training schools using retired qualified people to teach skills to young people and encourage self-employment.
Action is required by the devious leaders of Spain who care more about raising money for their own ‘purposes’ than they do about fixing Spain. If this current situation is allowed to remain then Spain will continue to degenerate as only the youth of this country can save it but without skills, money, security or experience how can this happen?
