Hi all.

I'm after a quick bit of advice. I need to cancel three Ryanair flights next week and read somewhere that you can get taxes and fees refunded. Anyone know how to go about this? Also, how can I find out which proportion of the fare is composed of these fees as I can't see  that displayed on the email with the Ryanair itinerary?

Thanks.

I have heard that it costs more to get them reimbursed than the actual fees!

That doesn't surprise me. Each one cost about £125 return, so maybe someone knows whether it might be possible/worth it on that amount? Just thought it's worth a try.

I don't mind too much, because we get good deals by always booking way in advance, and the only drawback is times like this when we need to cancel.

Perhaps if possible you could change the flights to another date / time, you might only then pay a smaller fee to change as opposed to losing everything.

Don't phone them, I did over a small problem and it seems when you phone them and talk to a human who "MIGHT"  help you, it will / might / could cost you extra just because you phoned. I still have an on-going issue over this, cost me £35.00 just to sort out something that turned out to be their fault.

They also have a live chat thing which might / could help... Good luck..But this is O'LEARY and RYANAIR after all, so don't bank on it.

I wouldn't cancel them, you'll get little or nothing back just a lot of hassle. At least if you don't cancel, they can't re-sell them.

Eggcup,

IMHO the only was of getting the success you outline is firstly telephoning them to give them the chance to deal with the matter reasonably.  In doing so keeping a close record of the call who you spoke to, what was said, the time and length of the call etc, then putting the siutuation to them in writing.  The after a reminder or two, send a letter by recorded delivery and if still no response issue proceedings in the County Court - it's remarkably easy to do these days on line.

You will find that as soon as you issue proceedings you will receive a response from them.  I cannot guarantee it will be a positive response, but that is most likely.

I cannot abide these call centres, so that is the process I've used on numerous occasions and won each time, with the defendant paying the court fee etc.  Actually one of the most difficult was EasyJet as they did reply (!) but each reply was virtually goobledegook, which I'm sure was part of their ploy to try and grind me down.  But you just keep cool and repeat the facts.  They also coughed up in full in the end - but it was over a year!

Good luck!

You cannot cancel a Ryanair flight - this is from their website

~All Ryanair flights are changeable but cannot be cancelled, please note customers don't need  to notify us if they are unable to travel .
Customers who are unable to use their outbound flight can still travel on their return flight.

Flight dates/times/routes/names can be changed up to 4 hours before the flight departure time via Manage Booking  unless you have already checked in, in which case please contact us to uncheck the relevant customer.

If you do not travel on your booked flight the air fare, fees and charges are non-refundable but you may apply in writing within one month of the date of travel for a refund of the Government Tax paid.  Government tax refunds are subject to an administration fee. click here for fee details.  If the refund amount is less than the applicable administration fee, no refund will be made.

Ryanair are getting better.....

I wanted to take my Golf Clubs on a one wat trip to Spain. The website only shows a return trip at £100 for sports equipment. When I phoned them (phone no not that easy to find) I only had a 5 minute wait and they added my clubs to my booking at half price the on-line, i.e.£50 so no surcharge for phoning them.

If you may need to change a flight, Business class seems a good deal, this includes 20kg Luggage, priority boarding, etc which at £50 could be cheaper than adding the bits individually.

Mike.
