I always consider the Americans to be the insular ones where anything overseas is concerned. We have American relatives (wife's cousin and family) who think that Spain is a third world country inhabited by Mexicans, and refer to the UK's highest ranking clergyman as 'The Archduke of Canterbury', they had no idea where Iraq was located, prior to them (and us) invading it, hadn't got a scooby that Blair was the head of what was supposed to be a socialist political party, however they like 'that Tessa May's' shoes.
I quite honesty like the idea of having an insight into the American electoral system, everyone to their own I suppose.

They'd be surprised that it was Brits and other N Europeans, not Mexicans occupying the place!
The choice of the USA's president is bound to affect us, and I suppose the fascination is because we have no say.
The thread is about Trump. I have learnt quite a bit more about Mrs Clinton since May but Trump is still an inigma.
I would not fancy the choice. How the two candidates got there is I suppose worth studying. Did they get the candidates they deserved? Can't believe they do not deserve, or are incapable of choosing, better.

You say "... but Trump is still an inigma" ...I think the last word is actually spelt "enema"

I wonder what the odds on future impeachment will be in respect of the eventual winner, Clinton is very experienced in presidential etiquette, whilst Trump is a veritable virgin in this area, however both are very full of themselves and either may just do a Nixon whilst on an ego trip.

Now now Hugh,
This is a none story compared to the the great victory of the inners in totally trouncing the Brexiteers in court.
The world is sending a message to the wishy washy PC Liberal brigade, I'm sure that this forum's self appointed inteligencia will have conclusive evidence that Clinton has been cheated, now let's trigger Article 50 and really rag them off.

Destry - Trump suckered Clinton all the way. If Hillary Clinton had avoided the mud slinging and kept to policy, where Trump knows nothing, he wouldn't have had a hope. But he brought her down to his level, then beat her with experience.

acer,
So the American's didn't vote 'anti establishment' then. Clinton set the rules of engagement, but wasn't that good in participating in the fight that ensued, however I reckon that she is disliked even more than Trump, she almost dances to the podium smiling like a Cheshire cat and pointing at god knows what.

The USA voted for a change knowing Trumps plans and policies unlike the Brexiters who are still focussing on immgration, still no plan, still no strategy, still no idea

** EDITED - Against forum rules **
You seem to want to argue, but I'm not a Clinton supporter. If you look back on this thread you'll see I predicted Trump's victory. But they were both of amazingly low calibre candidates to the point that they make Jeremy Corbyn look dynamic. The US should be ashamed that their process produced these two baffoons as the choice.
As well as being past his sell by date Trump is uncouth. He seemed to be trying to do a Nigel Farage, without his sophistication and finesse.
But yes I had also noted Hillary's habit of pointing to someone in the audience as she wobbled on stage. Perhaps she's acknowledging the guy who's hired the friendly audience? The cheering cannot be genuine.

The reality of who voted for whom and why is easily explainable.
Just like in UK, and probably every other country, a large majority of voters cannot give any intelligent supportable reason why they voted.
Not all might agree with me but consider, there is no tangible qualification required in order to have a vote other than to be old enough and to have registered. That is unlike say taking a job, driving a vehicle, applying for a visa, a bank account etc. etc.
Thus, any and all idiots can be included on the electoral register and so decide a population's future.
I think the most incredible statistic is that the USA, with a population of around 300 million, were unable to find better qualified candidates.

Back on track,
As I recall the establishment were scared to death of JFK, but trusted Nixon, Reagan was just a second rate actor in the Whitehouse, but he turned out to be a half decent president, unlike George W who did his damnedest to start WW111, and he had great credentials.
IMHO Trump has a lot of similarities with Boris, neither are ever going to look cool and will say exactly what they think, let's give them both the benefit of the doubt, well we don't have much of a choice do we?
