Hi everyone, I am new to this site and would like some info on retiring to Spain. We have looked on line at various properties and as of yet not made our minds up where to buy. We only have a budget of £60.000 and are wondering if it is possible to buy a 2/3 bedroom property within a reasonable distance from the sea/town/entertainment etc.Or are we asking too much? We have noticed that there are a lot of properties for sale at Campasol Murcia, is there a problem with this area? Also we like the look of Torrievia, is this a nice area? And lastly what are the pitfalls of living/ buying properties in Spain?......We would really appreciate any help or tip

the ;ast poster is correct, please remember the buying costs that are on top which are around 13% which means based on todays exchange rate that is a property valued at €58k, to spend on a property, which isn't going to get you much, especially if you are looking to relocate, forget it

I have people out this weekend looking for 2 bed apartmemt around Orihuela Costa, that's Torrevieja, holiday home for own use and rental, really they need €80 for something decent to start and I have about 12 to show them

And be very careful of how you approach buying property in Spain.   Trust no one. This site is full of people who have been stung.

Its a minefield of unregulated misery if you get it wrong.   Be warned!!!!

Don't be put off with the negative response you have been getting on looking for a property for £60,000 they are available but they tend to be very small and not designed for full time living....what I would do is rent first and while renting take your time having a good look around   the Costa Calida area especially Mazarron don't go looking at something at 80,000 expecting to put a offer in of 50,000 property is selling very well at the moment and priced to sell and you will only get 2 or 3 thousand off the price.

Another point to consider is that although you maysurprise get a bargain deal from a desperate vendor a few years on and you might receive a gift by way of a HUGE billangry from the Spanish Government because, even if you believe you can prove otherwise, they will have considered that a liveable property was purchased with black money.

For a property under €100k be aware it will have issues. From a back street hovel. One subjected to flooding or subsidence to being a ruin accessed via land belonging to another. Been there...seen it.

Save your money and either rent or, why not be waited on by staying in hotels..which are unbelievably inexpensive out of season.
