Hi everyone, I’ve recently spent a month near Los Alcazares. My one big issue is the quality of the meat but beef in particular. I do know Spanish beef is reared indoors and is dry fed. Both Irish and British beef cattle are fed on grass. Theses two systems make for a much different taste. My question is. Can one buy Irish or British beef in the Los Alcazares area? What supermarket chain (if any) carry the product?

Not many if any. You need to find a butcher that imports beef if you like eating animals.

economy supermarket in the new Pinatar Park (next to Dos Mares) has an excellent butchers counter. Don't know about all the beef there except I've bought good oxtails there. Big on pork.

Supermercado Facono  is an excellent supermarket/ butchers, they import meat too.

Wagyu and Black Angus are very nice, but not the cheapest cuts of course, a wide selection of around the world cheeses too.

"I do know Spanish beef is reared indoors and is dry fed."

** EDITED - Against forum rules **. There are lots of Spanish farms that not only rear grass fed beef, but raise grass fed oxen...they rear them for up to ten years before slaughter.

I buy chuleton steaks from my local butcher (Candeleda, Castlle y Leon) that are all grass fed and from around five year old animals. It costs around €35/kg. The north of Spain is famous for good beef.

** EDITED - Against forum rules ** UK beef is fed overwhelmingly on grain...with the odd ten minutes in pasture.
