Ikea in Spain
The Comments |
Apparently some nerd camped out over night in order to be the first customer. OK, so he got a €300 voucher (that's a lot of meatballs!) but even so......I know I've been extolling the virtues (mainly of their meatballs) on the other thread (IKEA Malaga), but really, what is so special about IKEA that 18,000 people braved traffic jams, parking problems and crowds in the store just to visit on the first day? Beats me.

Does anyone know any good furniture stores near Terreros or Aguilas, also good electrical shop? It's my first trip to Spain to sort out the house we have finally been able to buy. I'm nervous of driving on the left and speak no Spanish. However, I might brave a trip to Ikea from the airport (Alicante). Is anyone able to give me good directions? (idiot proof if possible). Also, has anyone ever tried to ship stuff over to Spain? How did it go?
Love to hear from anyone

No directions for Ikea I'm afraid but we did ship a houseful of furniture from UK to Spain.
We used Britannia Removals, a well know name in removals. My advice to anyone is DON'T use Britannia. They damaged furniture and lost some very treasured pictures and photos, including our wedding album and my wedding dress. The response of the company was shameful and they refused any attempts to try and trace the missing items saying they wouldn't know where to start. The man (Malcolm (Halliday?) somebody in Manchester) I was dealing with was condecending and sarcastic and I never received any sort of apology. It was very distressing. Also, although a Britannia van came to collect in the UK, when they arrived in Spain it had been contracted out to a different company and the van had several people's belongings on, it was shambolic and no wonder our stuff got lost. We paid over £3000 for this "service".
Best of luck with the move.

Hi Poppyseed, sorry to hear that, what a disaster! I actually live in Singapore at present, I would love to ship from here as the furniture etc is fantastic, but shipping can be difficult with timing. Oh well, I'll just see what's in Spain just now, maybe risk it later.... !
