5. All children using the pool must henceforth wear waterproof nappies
That is one of our pool rules anyway (for babies). Who wants loggies in the pool ?
Loved the one about birds flying upside down over the pool.

It's good to know that you have that rule, and perhaps I should remove it from the list, because it's actually not ridiculous at all. But usually, any suggestion that babies can be offensive to some, is met with derision & loathing. Why anyone differentiates between cat poo and baby poo, I don't know. I've been in a pool and come face to face with a "floater", whereas I've yet to find any "deposits" in the garden from passing stray cats.
Perhaps a total ban on children is the only fair thing?

well unpleasent sarcasm, thinly disguised as a joke doesn't change the facts. Some dogs bite, and some cats kill small birds and animals in horrible ways. I realise that's natural for a cat, as is obviously the toilet duties of cats and dogs, but it doesn't change the fact.
The only reason we have a lovely range of small birds in our garden, is because cats are not welcome! I have had cats and dogs in the past, and in the privacy of one's own home, then that's fine.
The issue here is consideration for other people sharing common ground. Rules are made because unfortunately, some people refuse to do just that.

i realise you are being treated unfairly, and i don't blame you for being angry that it's one rule for one, and one rule for another. As you say, that can't be right. As an animal lover, i also realise how hard it is parting with a pet. I just think if the rules are clear about no pets for anyone (and that should of course include strays) then that's only fair for everyone to abide.
Can you imagine the alternative if the rules were ignored?. You could have animals roaming freely, safe/desirable or not, and mess everywhere.

hi goodstich44, I agree that there should be rules made for communities, but we all know that when you are living in a community where there are many apartments that are let out to holiday makers and short/long term renters plus owners that live in their apartments, then the rules are going to be broken or bent to suit each individual needs. i.e lilos in the pool, over parking in the communities car parks, noise disturbances, towels over balconeys, sunbeds not put away, children playing football in areas with no ball games in signposted. areas. e.t.c e.t.c.
so why should the rule that states no animals in the community areas( when the president walks the dog in them, and our cats are being continually penalized for spending a few hours a day in them ) be adhered to? I believe that you can only reinforce a rule to stop EVERYONE doing the same thing. Which as you can see from all the comments posted that is impossible. We all have diffterent views and opinions, and it is just about finding a truce.
Debwal.
P.S I would like to ask anyone if and when they sell their property, if someone was willing to pay the asking price but had a pet i.e cat/dog would they turn their offer down??????????????

Hi all
Debs asked I would like to ask anyone if and when they sell their property, if someone was willing to pay the asking price but had a pet i.e cat/dog would they turn their offer down??????????????
If I was buying into an established community I'd have thought it was up to me to ensure my pets were allowed. After all, surely we don't disclose certain facts here in the UK if we know it's going to make a difference to a sale, UNLESS we are in the situation where we shouldn't lie, of course, if the question was posed. Knowing what I know now I'd request a copy of community rules.

sorry i should have said it was on the basis that you and your neighbours dont want animals in the community. would you consider selling to this person or turn them down and consider your neighbours. interesting to see where loyalties lie there. especially if you were the nieghbour. Debs, I understood what you asked & my thoughts stand. IF the buyer asked "does this community allow animals ?" I couldn't & wouldn't lie.

Hi debwal
i can see where you are coming from. In an ideal world, the rules for the things you mention, wouldn't need to be there, because considerate people would make sure they didn't make life unpleasent for fellow community members. And for some that means cats or dogs. I think the problem is everyone has there own idea about what is acceptable or not, so a set of common rules has to be made to mainly protect those who do play by the rules from those who sadly dont. At least that way everyone knows where they stand.
I would think everyone dislikes some of the rules for things you've mentioned. Even when i stay at large campsites, there are rules such as no pets, no loud noise after midnight, no swimming after a certain time ect ..........It works, most of the time, and is for everyones sake!

Hi Morerosado , I asked it you were selling it to someone. not buying it yourself. What if they didnt ask and saw animals in the garden and the president among others walking their dogs.

HI Goodstich44, i totally agree that there should be rules. but when the person that is assigned to reinforce these rules and breaks them herself why should i or anyone else feel the need to stick to them.? Surely we are both agreeing on the same thing.

And stupid of me. yes. i am keeping my cats in. abiding the rules, while seven stray cats roam freely and dog owners walk their dogs breaking them. P.S have got to go now, too nice to sit indoors on the computer, might go buy myself a dog

And one last thing , i only asked the question about selling your property because one of the owners of this community voted to take the cat owners to court. and he has his property up for sale. I just wondered if he got a buyer with a cat or dog would he refuse to sell his apartment to them . As surely that is double standards if he did sell them it. I was interested in what other people, who dislike animals would do in this situation.

yes, on the point of rules not being obeyed, we are saying the same thing. I just think by joining in on NOT obeying the rules, you are heading for trouble, as it leaves you powerless to insist on any rules that you feel might need adhering to by other people, now or in the future. (though i can't say i blame you in your case, if all else fails)
One way or another everyone should be forced to obey the rules or fined, or go. How else could it be fair?

Debs, I stand by what I said. If I was the owner selling & a prospective buyer didn't bring it up about their animals being allowed I don't have a problem not mentioning it (to hopefully achieve a sale, especially in the current economic situation) unless, as I said, it cropped up in chat as I wouldn't lie. (Please read this post along with my others to get full picture). It is up to the prospective owners to enquire as it would quite obviously be relevant to them. If the prospective buyers saw other animals around I appreciate they would assume animals were allowed. It would surely be brought up then. I'm just saying that I personally feel that it isn't up to me, as the vendor, to come out with "you cannot buy my property if you want your animals here".
I see you wanted answers from non animal lovers. I'm not one of those.
Put harnesses on your cats, Debs, & take them out for walks (walk behind your President too ) & call them dogs. (If you can't beat them, join them).
Edited to add : I see if we want to edit our post before another posts, as long as we hit edit button (then spend some time editing) it's possible, as has happened here, to actually edit your post AFTER another has posted. This has meant this thread has gone a bit astray.

hi morerosado, Like the cartoon. Nice idea but the president has already thought of that one and rule states no cats, allowed onlydogs on leads when walking amongst community areas. But original rules state no animals in the community areas at all. This president also set a rule that everyone should park underground as there are limited parking spaces above ground. The president then proceeded in putting notices on peoples car to tell them to abide this rule and park underground. Even though the president had THREE CARS and no notice was attached to them and these cars are rarely parked underground. It's like what we tell our children ,dont do as i do, do as i say.
Debwal
P.S there is another thread about this community on the forum. check out Community Fees too high. And then you can see why I am miffed.
