Carried out a "consumer test" to see if you really needed to correspond with Iberdrola in Spanish.

Sent two separate e-mails to them - one in English and one in Spanish - and got replies back in respective languages within ten minutes of each other!!

Not sure that you'd get such good response time in England!

Good one Abs
I did e mail them only in English, never had a response back. But, I hadn't put in the factura number so maybe that was why. Certainly interesting that they do come back if you correspond in English. Thanks for the tip.
Hope that will be the last of the ridiculous estimates now.

Hi,

Sorry I may sound thick asking this but what is a factura number, I have never had a bill so cannot look at one for the confirmation but is it like a reference number/customer number, I presume I should include it when i email them.

many thanks

Twinmummy

I have a Solbank account and every time that Iberdrola take money out, against that particular entry is my Iberdrola contract number.  I just used that one in order to get an e-mail response.  Just thought that as you haven't received any bills, if you had a similar set up on your bank statement then you could use that number.  The factura number is a good deal longer on my bill - 17 numbers compared to 9!

Hi just thought I would update every one, and see if anyone else as had any response,  I have emailed Iberdrola and I keep getting back postmasters failure of delivery confirmation, so I give up on that Idea, thinking either something wrong with their system or my internet. Anyway I got on their web site, registered with them and changed my preferences to include recieving a paper bill, I also asked to be put on a budget scheme so I know how much is gonna come out of my account and when.

Has for the previous bill of 222Euros, according to them the bill is correct, they told me to compare the reading on my account via the internet to my own meter reading, this was done and yes the numbers was similar concidering a month and half has gone by, so I agreed the meter reading is to be correct. the only thing me and husband can think of that is wrong, is that the rate they are charging us is too high, does anyone know anything about tariffs etc.

I cannot believe that amount was charged for a small two bed apartment.

bye for now

Hi Twin Mummy

Just downloaded my bill from Iberdrola - with a few personal details excluded - and on there it gives the prices that I was charged.  Might be an idea to compare mine with yours, and see if there is any difference in the unit charge.

All the best

Hi

We have just looked at our last two bills, and the rate charged is very similar, however our consumption was a LOT less, which is why our bills have been so reasonable.  I can only assume that because we have been using electric fans, as there is no air conditioning in this apartment, they use a lot less electricity.  As I said before, we had John's family over for 12 days during the period of the latest bill, so expected it to be a lot more, but it was still very reasonable (46.76 euros).

Hope that you get it sorted.

Sue

Hi Twinmummy...

Just a quick question which I don't think anyone else has asked yet. Was this 220 euros your first ever payment to the electricity company?

We completed in April 2006 and were on builders electric unti early 2008 which meant we made no payment towards electric for the first 20 month we were there. Our first bill came in in May 2008 and was for 188 euros (for a 2 bed, 1 bath apartment, no air con). I queried this with the president of the building as everyone would have had a similar experience and it turned out that you have to pay a connection fee when you switch from Builders Electric. We now receive a bill every three months and the last one I received was 91 euros which considering it is occupied by tenants is good value at 30 euros a month.

I hope things get better for you in the near future. We too tried to make it work in Spain and lasted 12 months - it is hard if you don't have the contacts or the language. When we got down to our last euro we sold the car and went overseas where there was work for us. We now have tenants in who pay about 80% of the costs of the apartment and we have to send the rest back each  month.

Good luck!

Thank ABBBB1

I will compare tomorrow and  get back to you, thanks for that should be a straight for ward way to sort it out.

MLG, HI, I wish it was my first bill that would explain everything, no, we completed dec 2006 and have already paid the conection charge, our bills have always been under the 85 euro mark, whih is why we cannot work this bill out, why it was soooooooo high, its so frustrating. I am gonna look on the website tomorrow and see if it gives detailed bills so I can compare the tariffs of previous charges (i dont get paper ones to look at), I will compare that wit the copy from Abbbb1 and see what I come up with.

Thank everyone for your help and support
twinmummy

Just a quick reply.

I am able to download the last three bills from the website - not sure if I could have access to more, if I requested.

Best of Luck

Hi Twin Mummy

Are you any nearer resolving the problem??

Just realised that my last post wasn't entirely correct.  I only started getting bills through the internet in the last three months, and because of that I thought that you could only call up 3 bills.  Have just received the fourth one for this year - just over €118 this time (thank goodness!!) and then realised that I would probably be able to call up details on a year's worth of bills!!

Hope that things are better for you now.

Hi Twin Mummy

Just caught up with this post (new to the site) and wanted to say sorry that you are having financial problems and hope that your husband has managed to get a job.  At the moment it is very difficult to get a job and when you have a family to feed and paying ridiculous electricity bills it really must be tough.    Also I wanted to sympathise.  Although my husband works I am unable to due to personal circumstances.  We are barely getting by on his wage so when Iberdola took out 360 euros for two months electric we were stuffed!  Usually it is about 60 to 80 euros so a bit of a shock!  We still don't know why it was so high but they insist it is correct.

Have you had an electricity bill since?  Was it a lot less?  Sorry for the questions but we received ours yesterday and it was only 81 euros!  A huge dip for the 360 euros they charged for the previous two months.  Luckily I am fluent in Spanish so am bombarding them with emails and phone calls regularly in the hopes of getting this sorted out.

Has your husband managed to find work yet?  I hope he has and if not all the very best of luck to him.

Good luck and huge hugs to you and your family.
