JeansSis. Thanks for your reply. I have looked at the insurers web site, which you mentioned and it looks like it might be just what I want. I am going to look at it more detail and if my current insurer lets me down, then I'll be gving them a call.

Pat.

Hi Mr Fish,

I got a quote from Jeansis's insurers, Saltsbay in Torreveija and they beat my current insurers by 50€ per year, plus they increased my re-building costs to the correct level.

I have been underinsured for 3 years!

A good service, policy all in English and the lady who you would deal with there is English too!

In fact most everywhere in Spain is English now isn't it!

Thanks Fibby, I will definitely call them for a quote. Do you know what? I suspect my property is also undervalued. It looks like it is insured for the value of the mortgage, not the actual property value. Looks like they are just protecting themselves but not my investment.

Hi Patman,

You mention getting insurance for the property value. In the UK the amount of insurance cover is based on the rebuild cost, not the actual value of the property. The rebuild cost is far lower than the value. A lot of people in the UK make this mistake and over insure themselves. Not sure how it works in Spain, but I would presume its the same. Double check with the insurer what amount is required. Is it the rebuild cost or the market value. Let us know what answer you get.

Ok Westport will do. I remember looking at my policy and the difference between the amount insured and the purchase price was €90,000.00 which seemed a lot but I wil check and get my facts before I make any decision.

Hi JeansSis / Westport. €1000.00 per sq m sounds about right then for what I've paid. (Just over as you said).

I was walking past the entrance to a large urbanization near me the other day, and couldn't help noticing all the buzones (mail boxes) that were bursting to overflowing , mainly with junk mail, propoganda etc. It occured to me that this is akin to putting a big sign on your front door saying "nobody home, feel free to burgle". If you are going to be away from your property for any length of time, try to ensure the mail box gets emptied regularly. If you are in an urbanization with a concierge, propose at the next community meeting that it becomes one of his routine duties. If not, try to get a friend or neighbour to agree to empty it regularly, as the onslaught of junk mail is relentless, and it's a dead giveaway as to which properties are empty.

Doh Roberto now youve told them that I wont be able to use that as my spotting device for targetting absentee owners! Where do you think I go when I shut down on EOS at 2 in the morning. Now I will have to raid people's cloths driers to enhance my wardrobe, or even buy it in the shops but that means I get funny looks.

New thread on Spanish postal service? Don't get me started. I just received a Christmas card yesterday, posted in UK 13th December.

Smiley, I'm getting really worried about you. I hope Juan knows what he's getting into by meeting you on Friday......

Ive been floating around. Been feeling sorry for myself, tried a new facial wash, had an allergic reaction, face blew up, I looked like that killer doll..... CHUCKIE.

In fact ive got it..... I could stick a photo of me 'chuckie doll style' on my spanish front door ........ the burglars would s**t themselves and run a mile. My kids did anyway. Even I did for goodness sake untill I realised it was me. Its got to work.No one messes with CHUCKIE.
