We are not happy with the play areas ,the surfaces are dangerous ,we need the same surface that Keymare provided on their Veranda Agua urbanisation, which can be confirmed by visiting the photos taken by owners and posted on the Verandah Agua forum. It shows a specialist surface ,we have hard abrasive grit,an addition of sand will not suffice . As our apartment overlooks the play area next to the middle Padel tennis court PLEASE DON'T USE SAND as we already have a problem with a dog leaving his calling card at the bottom of our steps. Hopefully it's only a short term problem but sand is an obvious attraction for dogs. I for one am all in favour of the rubber surface and don't care how much it costs.

Noreen,
We have just returned from AAT and I posted my concern on the sand issue before reading my e-mails. Yes you are correct the proposal is for a rubber surface but while this matter is only in the position of a proposal I thought it worth pointing out what I considered a very good reason why it SHOULD be adopted.
Many thanks for taking proxy votes for the forthcoming meeting, I have just sent mine off to you, good luck.

I would be interested to see how the rubber surface works out and what costings are involved, with a view to approaching our community on the issue. Please keep me informed.

Just a word, and awareness. That rubber surfaces can actually increase injury from falls to long bones. I used to inspect child play areas, of course current thinking may have changed.

One of the surfaces we recommend is Playtop®, which is made from special rubber granules, bound together and laid in-place. The continuous surface is very strong and soft enough to absorb the impact from a fall. Due to the way Playtop is installed, games and activities can be inlaid to add colour and fun to the play environment. Playtop® Safer Surfacing is ideal for outdoor use as it is completely porous, extremely strong and requires very little regular maintenance.
Play is essential to children. “To play is to learn”
Children play to grow. As adults creating Playgrounds for children we need to remind ourselves that our needs might not be the same as the children’s needs.
The play area should be a balanced area welcoming all users – but the children come first! Play equipment should be exciting signals for play, to show our children that they are welcome in the public sphere.
