Hi there
When we were out in May we discovered all our channels on the TV were lost, but when we did a search we got about 5 Spanish channels back. We lost a music channel and a sports channel that was in English. Never did manage to get BBC world or CNN at all. Wonder what channels will be left next time we go out!
Query again why different blocks can get different channels when the same model of TV plugged in and why are we now loosing TV channels?

When I was out in May and early June (Block 39) we could get Sky News and BBC World, but CNN had disappeared and I could not get anything from the radio socket. However, getting the Sky package fixes all of that including getting all the UK (and many more) radio channels. I certainly consider the one-off installation and Sky box charge of around 500 Euros to be worth it.

David,
Thanks .I just liked to hear the local radio Spectrum FM on 92.6,the local news and funny adverts made us feel at home in Thalassa.I cannot understand ,we used to receive it via the socket into our JVC radio, but it has gone.
Would we be able to receive Spectrum via the Sky radio?
Ken

ken,
I took a digital radio from home to try and it works well without plugging into the wall conection. The downside is that it does not broadcast in digital although it does in stereo which is very good. I have just returned and listened to Spectrum every morning without a problem.

Hi Ken,
There are many radio channels on sky, but I fear that Spectrum is not one of them. You will have to sit out in the car if you can't make the socket work, though as two wasps points out his standalone digital radio works without the wall socket.

Hi Ken
Spectrum won't be available on the Sky planner as it is a local radio station broadcast within the confines of Spain. We have as radio alarm clock at our apartment that tunes in well though!

Most of the following information is taken from an article in the Euro weekly news which could be one of the reasons TV channels are being lost although I have never had one in the first place.
Microwave TV, the illegal, pirated television system which has been operating in the costa, has been closed down in the law courts British TV companies have been providing nearly half a million expatriates with Sky television channels without the permission of Sky. Apparantly if you have a Sky card in the UK the contract only applies when you are living in the UK and that Sky will cancel the card immediately if they find out the card is being used in Spain.
All individual Sky cards have to be ordered against a UK address and then posted over to the viewer in Spain for activation. Only companies such as Europa Digital, can organize this effectively because they are authorized Sky agents in the UK.
If all this is correct BE AWARE of companies advertising in the COSTA ALMERIA NEWS that are encouraging you to take out packages that enable you to use the same viewing card both in the uk and in Spain enabling you to commute back and forth using the same card. Great news if it is legal, but I should imagine pretty expensive if it's not.
Hopefully something will soon be sorted at AAT which will enable us all to receive some form of English TV?

Just to point out, there is no such thing as an authorised Sky dealer in Spain, they do not exist. Europa advertise that they are the "only authorised" Sky dealers in the region. This is a blatant mistruth as all activated cards from ANY reseller in Spain are activated at a UK address. There is a big thread about this in the main forum somewhere.
Sorry to hijack Ken
