Hi Folks
Just wondered if anybody has any info regarding how long it is taking to get connected from the builders water and electricity to your own. We know that the general guide is betweeen 30-60 working days, which seems like a long time, but has anybody who has already completed managed to get switched over.
The reason we ask is that we are due to complete on the 15/16th October, and we would like to go back in Dec before Christmas to fit the place out with furniture and lights etc, but this all depends on whether or not we'll have any utilities connected.
Thanks

Hi Alison & Simon,
I have completed and am builders utilities - I am in no hurry to change over and start paying!! I have just had 2 weeks out there on the builders utilities without problem (except that all power was out 1 day).

Hi Ted
Thanks for your comments. My understanding was that once you completed PW turned everything off, and didn't turn it back on again until it was all registered in your name, so that in effect you weren't getting free electricity and water. It seems though that this may not be the case.
Cheers

No that isn't the case, but ask them to turn it on, or they may not. Best to do it when you do the snagging, mine was on the day i completed. You need to make sure you turn things on at the wall box for electrics, and also that you make sure the various stop cocks are open (I went 2 days without water, before I realised that my I hadn't turned them on!!)

Thanks Ted.
Emma from Snagit Murcia is doing our snagging, so we'll ask her to ensure that things are turned on. Our fear was that we turned up in December and didn't have any water etc.

I am moving out 14th august and I just rang them up and they said it will be on for when I arrive.... I think as long as you let them know in advance they will sort it, but as with everything else at PW there are no gaurantees

You can email them as well to ask to be connected to Builders Utilities (i.e. the free ones).. They say that it typically takes 2 to 3 working days for them to get you connected, so I'd suggest that you ask them at least a week in advance of having to use it. When I was out there a couple of weeks ago there were quite a few people (perhaps 20 or so apartments) who'd been connected - so it shouldn't be n issue..

Hi All,
We are out in September and were told by PW to contact them about a week before to have the builders water and electricity put on.
Couple of points I thought of:
I think logically the utilities will not want to come out to site to connect the odd apartment in each garden up to supply. I suspect they will wait until they have a block of apartments to do and connect them all at the same time.
Also August is shutdown period for the utility companies with only emergency staff at work, so I guess nothing will be done until September anyway.

Hi All
Once you have completed, the builder is legally obliged by law to provide power and water until the utility companies install the meters and connect you up. We have a two bed bungalow 10 mins down the road, and have had it since March 05 and we are still on the builders electricity supply, but have only just started to pay for our water. The only problems that might occur, as did when we were over in June, if there’s a shortage of diesel fuel, they then might turn the generators off for a couple of hours in the night. So it’s in PW’s interest to get the utility companies in as soon as possible

Hi Jane & Mark
Appreciate the information, I am moving out in less than 2 weeks and as long as I know what to expect its ok. Although PW promised us Builders supply they did say that at times it will be turned off if work is being done a particular area, so it may be hit and miss on some days. Thanks again
