The Comments |
Just seen in an unrelated thread, a comment about washing lines not being allowed.
We visited the Jardines in early July, and were shown round by a PW rep called Andrea. We specifically asked if we could have a washing line on the solarium of the 2 bed Jardines. She said yes no problem.
However this is the same Andrea that said PW would be supplying the lights for the fronts of all properties so they would have a uniform look .....

I made the comment about the washing lines on the other thread and I was just repeating what I had read elsewhere.. We didnt ask about that but it came up a long time ago as a 'wont be able to do that' point on a thread. I think it was as far back as when we had some early interior shots of the kitchens and we were all pondering on the fixings behind the washing machine and whether it could be for a tumble dryer as well. This lead to discussion about washing lines and the fact that some resorts do restrict washing lines. I expect its another question for Customer Services.
Will there be a launderette at Condado? How do property managers get the bedding/towels dry- cant leave them up on washing lines for the next clents to see?

Jan the washing line issue came up on the community living thread - It was only on the 22nd but things move so fast it's off the page now.

Polaris quoted us for a combined washer / tumble dryer so I think it is safe to assume that the fixings for both are in place. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your replies. I've only discovered this particular forum in the last couple of days, so initially missed the one from the 22nd.
The wording in that thread is WASHING LINES ON THE FACADES, BALCONIES AND RAILINGS ARE FORBIDDEN.
Our Pergola is at the front of the property (they alternate front and back) - we plan to run a retractable line from the front post to the back post of the pergola. There won't actually be any washing along the front facade of the building so hopefully we should be ok ....

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if washing lines are allowed on the communal roofs (or is it rooves) of the penthouses? There seems to be hooks in place for what I presume to be washing lines. Meant to ask last time but i forgot.
Thanks
Cherrie

No - not allowed. The hooks are for awnings I think. We plan to purchase a low level airer for use on our balcony. I don't think having our dirty smalls hanging from the top of the penthouse is going to enhance the beauty of the golf course !

Hi all,
I for one would be against washing lines
Last time we were out I purchased a cloths horse for drying, stuck it out on the balcony at the back so no one could see it, don't really want to see peeps smalls blowing in the air around condado, next you'll be wanting to dry your towels out the windows and hanging them over the balcony rails, mind you with all the different footie teams being supported on the site it would be very colourful. Lets try and keep the place looking uniformed and smart at least for a few years anyway.
Just my personal opinion

Thanks for that. Not that I want to see everyone's washing blowing about either, but to be honest i didn't think it would be seen from the top of the penthouses. My mistake. On the other hand, why would anyone pay for an awning up there when it's a communal space and all you've got up there is a load of air con units? I didn't even know the area existed till we did the snagging. I'm talking about the penthouses not the solarium of the 2 bed Jardines.

We are in block 10 and were told on completion that the area on the very top floor is actually for washing lines. This avoids washing being seen on balconies. There is one space for each penthouse.

Hi
I have noticed that a lot of the spanish residents have a long low clothes airer type.so you can peg clothes on it or lye them flat.
They come in differing sises &some are more sturdey then the ret, so prices differ.
They do have the more robust ones in the supermarket on Condado but are more expensive than else where.
Bricko have a good selection & are cheaper of course.
I will be buying one of the more sturdy ones next time we are over as hopefully it wont blow over in the wind.
Hi Kev
As we are from the West Mids too. I`m wondering what comments might be made about our smalls or should I say our Large`s

We have a retractable washing line that we keep below the wall line in the back of our downstairs unit. I know some are against washing lines but I think you will see cleaners having to charge more for washing linens if they are to be dried in a tumble dryer, airers are more likly to blow over and dirty the sheets rather than dry them, we have some severe winds round here most days.
I vote for washing lines, retractable to be allowed, with only 500 KW of electric at normal rate per month now, who can afford to run a dryer?
Just my thoughts
Jill

I have noticed that many of the spanish residents have the low lying Clothes horse type of dryer.
there is space to peg out clothes & two areas where clothes can lye flat
They do come in various weights & most have the very sturdy ones.
you can get those in the Condado supermarket but naturally are more expensive than Brico. there is also a wider cghoice there & quite a lot cheaper.
As I dont think the sight of washing lines is very salubrious either I shall be purchasing one of the heavier ones nexttime we are over. The sturdy ones that I have seen in use have remained upright even in the strong winds in January.

I dont think anyone likes the look of washing lines or airers but I think if we we keep them low they should not offend even the weak hearted, trying to dry 6 beds on an airer would take an awful long time, I would have thought.
As President BUSH said.... "I think people and fish can live together".........

Hi Jill
Yes, you do have a point about the bedding but i`m sure everyone will work some thing out so all the apartments look as great in the future as they do now with low lying drying
Can we do it
In the words of Barack Obama Yes We Can.

My only point would be to try to keep the resort looking good. Having stayed on the Jardines several times where people have hung washing out in various ways it does start to look like a ghetto. Urrgh. Not what I bought into.
Having said that I'm not sure 'rules' will work anyway. Rather like responsible/irresponsible dog owners - if people want to do something then they'll do it and just you dare challenge them about it !

Hi All
The problem with the no washing line rule is it isn’t realistic, people do have to wash the bedding and get it dried and aired, a cloths airier isn’t a realistic option for the job unless you only do one item of bedding at a time and then hope the wind doesn’t blow it over. For this rule to be realistic each jardin area should have an area designated and screened off with washing lines for communal use, this way we would have a proper facility and no reason to have washing lines in each property spoiling the look of the resort, It would make sense for the roofs of the penthouse blocks to have washing lines again for communal use, but be cartful of those sheets blowing off in the wind.
As thing are at the moment lots of people especially the Spanish/French residents/owners are ignoring the rule and putting up personal washing lines because no other realistic provision exists. When we have stayed in other apartment within Europe most have in the guest rules that you mustn’t dry clothing/towels on balconies or solariums but they usually have a courtyard area with washing lines for communal use.
In the words of PGM we need realistic provision not unrealistic rules
