Hi All

Has anyone had any dealing with or know anything about Smart Currency Exchange whose advertising banner has appeared at the top of the forum pages?

Maybe a question for Dave (shampers) when he gets back from Mexico, it will take him a week to catch up on all the posts.

Phil

I think he used moneycorp, I used currencies direct as they actually allow you to set up a DD for monthly mortgage payments free of charge, and on lump sum transfers they got the best rate ever at the time and its free for any amount above 5k, excellent service, I didnt even have to transfer anything out of my bank as I did the first time with moneycorp (and got charged) I simply paid them by debit card over the phone.

Phil,

I am now using Smart to make the transfer for the final payment / legal costs having used Moneycorp for the first 2.  I found they achieved a better rate that Moneycorp - who's dealers get paid by commision & where trying to 'push' me into a contract last week @ 1.21.  I resisted, as the £ pound was an at time low aagainst the €.  One week later I have secured 1.25 on a forward contract with Smart, with no fee. The advised me to sit tight a week ago - when I must admit I was getting a little worried about Moneycorps negativity & forecasting.  To confirm Smarts competativness I checked others on Fri - it was still the best rate I could get - Moneycorp could not match it.   Didn't really need to secure the funds until end of October (completing on Nov 6th), but I saved £3k this week so decided to take any more uncertaintity out of it.

Need to pay 5% to secure the forward rate - not 10% as with Moneycorp

Regards

Nick

Nick - I'm thinking of going with Smart - so this is useful, thanks.
I'm going to give RBS one last chance to match any quote from Smart but I'm not holding my breath!!
I've not used this type of service before. Is it really as simple as they say?
Get a quote, agree it and transfer money to them with instructions for them to forward it (in our case to our solicitor) and they do all this at a competitive exchange rate and with no fee?
Seems too good to be true....but then, I'm a distrustful "Jocko" (yes another one - you're going to be sriously outnumbered at this rate!!) Ahh the neighbourhood will be ruined.....

Redcloak,

It really is that simple. Agree the rate....they then send you the e-mailed contract with their payment details & then it is just a question of transferring the funds etc. No worries withe either of them that I used.

Yes we are getting a bit outnumbered on Condado...........it's like Banockburn all over again.

Looking forward to a round of golf & a wee dram with you guys in the not to distant future

Best Regards

Nick

If I get a good rate - the dram will be on me!
(Does this constitute a contract?)

HI FOLKS
COULD SOMEONE GIVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER FOR SMART
I WOULD NEVER USE CURRIENCIES DIRECT THEY DENIED RECIEVING A CHEQUE FROM ME FOR 15K  FIRST INSTALLMENT ,THEY DENIED IT UNTIL MY BANK THREATENED THEM WITH THE FRAUD SQUAD AS MY BANK  KNEW THE CHEQUE WAS SENT AND CASHED ,AS THE BANK SENT IT FOR ME.
