The problem of people putting towels on sun beds and then disappearing seems worse than ever.

My wife is out in DV at the moment and has her nieces staying with her. At 10-30am this morning my niece went to the main pool to find 18 beds with  towels on them and no one on or near them.

By 2-30pm four of those beds still had towels on them and had still not been used. My wife removing towels from two of them to use herself.

The family owning the towels finally turned up at 3pm.

This is just not on. I know it has been discussed previously, but with a number of the apartments being used as holiday lets, it is essential that we quickly get signs up clearly setting out pool etiquette, which need to be placed close to the pool entrances.

The lifeguard is doing a great job, but we can't expect him to police the use of sun beds during the peak weeks.

When I was in DV last week he did say that more beds were on order, but this will not resolve the bed blocking, which is clearly going on.

Easy,

We must treat all of the towel leavers fairly and equally.  No discrimination.

So here's what to do.  Just get all of  the towels  and stack them on one sunbed.  They can share !

That's what I will do if I encounter that situation.

I started the sun bed moan, so I completely support view. But my daughter who was out recently had no sunbed ,saw some that had not been used for a considerable time, removed the towels, when person eventually turned up got abuse !! (she should have moved the bed away !!)
But seriously it is very selfish to get up early and "claim "beds if not using. I still feel 40 minutes if going in for lunch etc.
Solution is only for people to act reasonably & not be selfish. Signs up may help and give a bit of backup.
Am out very shortly, I will be the one with the black eye !!!!

People really are selfish sometimes.  When we were out a couple of weeks ago I claimed a bed which had not been used in the hour and a half I'd been down there and for a time before that according to other bathers I checked with.  I removed the towel and novel and placed them in a neat pile on the floor.  The owner turned up another half an hour later and moaned that I'd moved them.  He was fairly light hearted but I really shouldn't have had to deal with any comment or the problem in the first place.  The lifeguard was brilliant securing beds for us when he could but agreed - not really his job!  I am glad to hear more beds are on order at least as there is plenty of space for them by all of the pools.

Hi All

I totally agree with the comments being raised about the unfair claiming of sunbeds, We have all made the jokes in the past about towels on sunbeds, but the Brits have become the worst offenders.

The answer is a large sign at the entrance to all pools, that beds left for more than half an hour with towels or other belongings will be removed for the use of other residents, we all pay our fee's at the end of the day so share and share alike.

It makes me laugh when people get up early in the morning, empty there bladder, go for a five minute stroll armed with beach towels and a book, plonk them on a couple of sunbeds then go back to bed for a couple of hours. If everyone staying their gets behind this scheme there shouldn't be a problem... But there will always be the aggressive type who may want an arguement.

I am down in a couple of weeks for my summer break and will view with interest.

Cheers

PC

I did the same as Caroline a few weeks ago , however the culprits were 4 Spanish people from block 2 who only seemed to be there at weekends or evenings. When they returned their annoyance was there for all to see and one of them approached the lifequard and raised his voice...it was a shame.  They were joined by more friends later, one of whom was a colleague of mine and Jeff's from  the DV management team!!

I will write to AEA\and see if they can get a sign put up.

This is the type of "package holiday" mentality that we were trying get away from when we bought in DV.

If i wanted to scrap over a sunbed at 7.30 in the morning with a brit, spanish or german i would have gone to Torremolinos, Fuengirola or Benalmadena.

However, as the site fills up we need more sunbeds, that is obvious to all and when i was there last, there clearly wasnt enough.

I may have to consider buying my own sunbeds to take down to the pool if this chavish practice continues.

Tuesday’s situation was repeated again today. This time my niece removed towels from one bed in a row of 5.

She subsequently rec'd abuse and intimidation from a number of members of the same party. She was also told that she needed to learn the rules of DV and get up at 7am to claim her bed.

These were an English family who claimed to be owners, but were also from Block 2, with an apartment at the end overlooking the pool.  Several other people were present who seemed to now the family in question and supported their right to claim the bed.

If these observers are owners, then there is a good chance that at least one of them is a member on EOS. Perhaps they could join the debate and justify why they feel that bed blocking is justified.

We are not letting our apartment commercially, but clearly there are a number of holiday renters @ DV at the moment. If they are being treated in the same way, then if you are renting out your apartment, I think you should be just a little bit concerned. If guests are treated like this @ DV then they are unlikely to make repeat bookings.

The farce of the situation is that the family subsequently commented that one of the people they were reserving a bed for had gone to Estepona & did not need a bed anyway. No apology though.

My niece is 22, so is not a child and is fortunately capable of looking after herself. The attitude of the people involved and the observers though disgusts me.

Clear BOLD signs are needed urgently.

That is digraceful and totally unacceptable.  We need strongly worded notices about this issue and safety as when we were out there were a number of pool users (holiday renters I think) drinking wine from glases by the pool and I saw one glass broken by the poolside.

Hi Everyone

I've just started a new thread about our sun bed experience by block 10 pool.  I quite agree that people should not be allowed to reserve sun beds and then leave them empty for a whole morning but I don't think the signs will make any difference.  Also, who will police the bed blockers as there's no lifeguard by our pool.  As much as I felt like removing the towels, I didn't do it and I don't know if anyone else will either.  I know definitely that most of these sun beds were reserved by holiday rentals as 5 of them were in the apartment next to us and I think they put their towels on the beds when they returned to their apartment late at night.  The sun beds used to be stacked up and the grass cut regularly but this is no longer happening.  A lock has appeared on the gate but I don't know if it will stay there and it doesn't solve the problem as the beds are taken as soon as the lock is removed.

Having read articles about other developments on EyeOnSpain (include accounts of 2:00 am pool party goers with bottles, glasses and noise) I agree that just having signs will
not stop people leaving towels.

However putting up signs does greatly help people who are  brave enough to move towels   when they arrive at the pool and find the only vacant pool side chairs are covered with towels.

So I strongly support putting up signs.  Before we propose something for the AGM  we should also consider what else goes on the pools rules?

COMMUNITY NOTICE - USE OF POOLS

Dogs are not allowed within the pool areas.

Glass containers are strictly forbidden.  Plastic bottles and plastic or paper cups are acceptable.

Sun beds may not be reserved.  Towels and other objects placed on unoccupied sun beds will be removed.

There's a starter for 10.   I rarely use beds myself but I do want the place to be  civilised  should I ever have guests.

I completely support what is being said re the towels on sun beds etc. It is necessary to have signs and someone (I guess pool attendant or AEA) enforcing them. All of us reading and writing on this site are likely to be the reasonable ones,so we already know what is the right way to use the complex, its others not seeing these communications that need to be made to act unselfishly.
The putting towels on a night is easily solved and that is sun beds are to be stacked up last thing at night by pool attendant. This is a common practise at most other complexes.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the update.  I'm going to email AEA again this morning as I had no reply to my email of last week.  My daughter and her faimily will be there for 2 weeks from Friday 22nd August and although they like going to the beach, it would be nice if some sun beds were available should they decide to use the pool.

Additional beds and a sign are also in place at the middle pool. Pool between blocks 16 & 17 still not open though, although has been full of water for over a month now.

We went down to the pool one day and 19 sunbeds had towels one them and there were only 5 people in the pool, I timed how long it was before people came back to their sunbeds and some of them were unoccupied for at least two hours.  In the final week of our holiday more sunbeds had been delivered but it just made people reserve more for their party.  We had to keep taking our own sunbeds down to the pool and in the end got so fed up with it that we were going out for the day and to the beach etc.

Very sorry to read this.

Maybe the pool attendant needs to be asked to collect up the towels and place them in a pile somewhere.

It's a pity that there is no market for second hand towels !

Um.  Do towels float.

Hi Everyone

There's a problem with people reserving sun beds around the block 10 pool as there's no attendant to remove the towels.  Does anyone know if the 2 new pools will have attendants if they ever open?

Hi Ann

As far as I am aware, there will not be attendants at the other pools as they are not of a size that require them by law.  Personally, I would just remove the towels from those beds where people have left them for more than fifteen minutes or so.  There are notices on the gates by the pools that beds are not to be reserved and that personal items will be removed, so nobody can say a thing if you choose to carefully remove and put aside (somewhere safe, just to be a little more polite them those reserving the beds!!) someone's belongings!!

You don't need the pool attendant to remove the towels.
