Has anyone replaced their front door locks at HR?

If so, where did you purchase a replacement from and how much? I am happy to fit it myself.

I was thinking of buying from the UK...but it has to be the exact same barrel/size. Does anyone have details such as model number etc ?

Many Thanks in advance

Hi,

Give these a try, ask for Ian and tell him Ken Bamford referred you. He will look after you.  Very professional and reasonable prices. Euro 45 for complete lock change inc fitting. They can also help with most other things and if they can't do it themselves they will point you in the right direction.  Recommended.

If you go to Ferrobox in Succina (they are opposite Frankie & Louise at the traffic Lights) they know exactly which barrel you need. (I took mine in to show them but they knew anyway); they charged 17 Euros!

It took less than ten minutes to fit...easy!

Thanks Guys.

I will certainly try Ferrobox...17 Euro's is reasonable. Does this come with 5 sets of keys?

I was just trying to save myself time and buy from the UK...probably even save a few pounds.

Yes it comes with five keys and the security code to allow you to cut more.

Takes about five minutes to change the lock, really easy.

Sorry just to be clear, for 17 euros, is that just for the lock or do they fit it too?

Thanks Paul

17 Euros is the purchase price (approx £12)

You fit it yourself in approx 10 minutes.

Yes it's really easy to do yourself.  All you need is a Philips screwdriver.   We got ours in the electrical shop a couple of doors away from the tobacconist.   Not sure if that is the same one as already recommended.   We also got our fridge/freezer from them and they changed the fridge door opening from right hand to left hand (before delivery) when they heard us muttering that we would need to change the door once we got the fridge home.   A good couple of geezers in that shop.

Linda where is the shop that you got your fridge from?  I am looking for local white goods and other bits at the moment, fridge, washer, dishwasher, TV, DVD, microwave etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers,

Ken.

Its on the main street in Sucina just down from the tobacco shop opposite side of the road from Franc and Louise's. Sells everything.

Well worth a visit.

Yes Ken

It is Electrosucina telephone/fax number 968 370 637.  They do sell quite a lot of different things and are very helpful.   With regards to other appliances, we bought from mainly from Carrefour, Eroski, but got the TV & DVD from Mediamarkt in Cartegena, some furniture in Ikea, but bought the storage beds and terrace furniture in Muebles Direct ( www.mueblesdirect.com) or email at mueblesdirecta@telefonica.net .   Just along from Muebles Direct is another hardware shop that sells white goods, kitchenware, curtain rails, lighting (where we got our terrace lights from) and loads of other stuff.   I think the whole experience of looking round to furnish the apartment was the best part. .........sad person that I am.

I too have thought about changing locks but I recently had to get PW to repair my Air Conditioner while I was not over there. They still have a set of keys which they used to access my Apartment. If I had my locks changed this would have been difficult, organising to meet my key holder etc.
I have decided to leave the PW locks until the warrenty period is over. Does anyone know when this is, by the way, I assume its one year after signing over?
If people in the same block want to change locks it would be most cost effective to swop locks with a neighbour, provided all the keys were handed over of course. Those with two places can simply interchange the barrels.

John

Not sure that is a good idea John as I thought I understood that PW had skeleton keys which could access any door that still had PW locks in.   Can anyone confirm or refute this for me please?

Linda

If Polaris gave you 5 keys when they handed over the property to you then they have not got any spares.

I have just returned from HR and the call centre told me the reason my gas hadn't been connected was because the didn't have a key.
How was I to know they'd given me all the keys !!

My man on site tells me that it's 1 screw that needs undoing and 12 Euros for a new barrel with 5 keys. A 2 minute job that will give you the security of knowing for sure that you are in control of all the keys.

Nigel.

Hi

WARNING It is a two minute job IF you get the correct lock.  You must take your old lock with you. There are numerous locks some just a millimetre or so smaller or larger.

Even when we got the correct size lock, because the keys were slightly different at the part which touches the surround when the key is almost fully inserted ours wouldnt quite gi in far enough to open the door.  It took us hours before realising so take the lock and the surround on the outside of the door with you.  Leaving someone to guard the house of course!!

Hope this prevents the hours of frustration we endured!!.
Cheers

Pete

Tarkers or anyone,

Do you have a number for the PW call centre you refer to?  I am trying with limited success to ensure my utilities are being connected and my snagging is rectified prior to me getting there in September.  The last thing I want to do is to be spending my holiday chasing things that could and should have been done in my absence by PW.  Basically I need someone in PW customer after sales care (hah!) to bug until I get a result.

Regards,

Ken.
