The structure is what I think you would describe as "substantial".
The roof is of 1" thick solid timber boards. on first take I thought someone was building a shed on the terrace.
Just glad our apartments not next to it, sorry if yours is though.

Hi Cuz,
The apartment below has had the PW homestyle type of canopy fitted.
They haven't painted the beam what they have had is a second wind out canopy fitted to the front of the beam.
In fact in our garden there are 2 or 3 ground floor apartments who have had the PW style canopy and then added wind out canopies to the front and side.
It looks very effective and very stylish.

Hi Folks,
I think we have a classic case of not reading, or ignoring the 'rules of engagement' here. If you take a look into the document - General Articles of Association for the Condado phase 1 complex, under article 9 section 4 you will find a statement that basically outlaws the closing in of balconies, terraces & other open air elements. It goes on to state :- 'Furthermore, the modification of the appearance, colour, covering or general aesthetics of the fronts of the residential buildings is stricktly prohibited'. Looking at those photo's, you might say that this structure pretty much........ stretches....... the boundries on both of those conditions. As far as applying the conditions we have all agreed to in taking ownership of a Polaris community property, we should expect the policing and removal where necessary to be carried out by Polaris who are managing the administration of the resort until we collectively vote in another management company. Part and parcel of our community fees is the duty on the administrators of the complex to apply the rules.
Anyone looking for a cheap bike shed !!

You are right it is a hideous monstrosity and I also noticed that at the back of that particular terrace it looks like they were intending to make another wooden cover behind the bit they have already covered.
Has anyone actually owned up to errecting this?
Glad I don't live in that Jardin. Maybe it will be removed by the next time I visit Condado in December.

Glad to hear that your Ikea canopy fits OK, any piccies? Did you out springs all round or use cord on one side?
We over in Nov, so will be bringing a couple of canopies out in the luggage.

Hi Phil,
Like you we bought 2 canopies. We only needed one.
I put stainless steel screw in eyelets into the pergola for the 8 suspension points. I used the 6 springs (3 either end ) and then the middle eyelets I just fastened directly.
The wind does tend to get up quite a bit but we had no problem at all using this method.
It may not look as good as the PW version but it does the job a treat.
I will post some pics asap for you.
Regards
Phil

Hi Phil,
I notice from the ikea website that there are two different canopy both costing £20. Can you confirm which one is the best to purchase?
The one you have attached a link to is 300 v 200cm (60125785) The other one is 415 v 360cm (40125786)
Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,
The 40125786 one is triangular, the other 60125785 is the one to go for. With the fittings it should be just the correct size for the pergolas. Hopefully Stonephil will be posting some nice piccies soon. My only modification, after having one up at home in sunny Cheshire, would be to put eyelets in the middle of each section to let the rain drain away.

Hi Everyone,
Excuse me if I am wrong but why buy a property in Spain and then put up obstacles to block out the sun. Is that not defeating the purpose of a place in Spain. I bought the sun not the apartment and I certainly do not want to block it out. As for that monstrosity of a so called canopy , definately shouldn't be allowed.
Maybe I will think differently when I visit but the darker I get the better.

Hi Ali,
Like you we want the sunshine. Although for 4 days last week all we got was rain rain rain.....
We put the canopy up and placed our table and chairs underneath so there is somewhere out of the direct sun to eat.
If you are one of the luck ones who go brown instead of the lobster colour I go then great but for me I still need a bit of shade.
