Some of us found that two canopies from IKEA would do the job as an interim fixture-as for some the Polaris canopy might need to be budgeted for.
The IKEA canopies are not on a rail system but are rectangular canvas in white, stretched and fixed to springs and large cup hooks. Two, with an overlap will fit the upstairs pergola and are approx £10 each (though that was an offer price)

If you mean the canopy that was fitted to the pergola on the Jardines show homes, then it's €977!! (fitted) from PW homestyle. That's for the top only and not the sides.
I managed to obtain a tie up one from Ikea for £9.50 in the end of season sale.

Cut and paste the below link to the Ikea product .
I don't think you can get these in Spain though so you need to buy and take out , weight is about 1.2Kg
The PW canopy for 895 Euro was fitted. Our concern was that with all the building work and dust when the canopy is pleated up when not in use it would become very dirt very quickly. Its a lot of money to shell out. Having bought the Ikea canopies for £20 each they can be easily removed each time we leave the apartment. Oh yes and they are white so meet PW requirements for conformity.

Thanks for the Ikea link. If you're sure it works (bearing in mind that Roger can't even hang a picture) I'm going to take two out there with us. As you say, it's a lot to shell out and they may get v dirty quickly. I'll get the Polaris one to celebrate the completion of the development.........one day.......

We were thinking along the same lines-cost and dust- and they will only be a temporary measure for us- or at least until we find out more about whether Polaris plan to build across the the back of the Jardines any time soon.

Haven't tried the Ikea Canopy yet but we are out next week and I will then. Will keep you posted.
The originator of the original Ikea canopy thread (sorry can't remeber who) said they tried them on their pergola in the UK and they worked fine.
Anyway £40 v 800+ Eur its worth the risk I think !!

Hi Phil,
Twas I that started the Ikea canopy thread. Having seen them in ikea reduced to £9.99 I thought they must be worth a try so I got one to try in the garden. It's up over the pergola now and I'm happy with it, but it needs a few mod's.
By standard one side is tied up with nylon cord and the other with spring connectors, depending on the exact size of the pergola in Condado I'd prefer to use spring connectors all round, I'll have to see if that is possible in Nov. The other problem is it collecting rain water, (a problem with all canopies) so I intend to put in two eyelets in to allow the water to drain.
With all the building works that going on at the moment I cannot see that it worth spending out a large amount on money on something that could well be covered in dust an ruined in a matter on months. thinking of which has anyone looked to see if the PW canopies are removable to take down for cleaning etc?
So, I've bought four ikea canopy covers to take out with me, giving me a spare whilst one is in the wash and replacements to last a couple of years or so. This also provides me with enough spring connectors plus some spares.
For what its worth, I looked around some supplies and worked out that you could make a cover simular ( or better ) to the one's supplied by PW for around £200. So when they reduce them to that price I might reconsider.
Phil

Hi Phil,
I thought it was you but wasn't certain.
We are out next week so I intend to mess around a bit to see which way gives the best fit.
I thought that springs all round may be a better solution so my thought was to attach the two canopies together using the shackles and then use the spring connectors around the edges. I have bought some large fencing hooks to screw into the wood of the pergola, similar to cup hooks but stronger and stainless steel, from B&Q for this purpose.
I will report back on its success with some pics on my return.
Even if its not successful I'd rather spend £40 trying first.

Hi Phil,
In the "Awning Sizes" thread 1098 posted that the true size of the pergola was 365x245cm, this being the case then I think that only one canopy would be required. Ok so there's a 10 to 12inch gap around it, but as it would sit withing the wooden frame I did think that would matter, and the gap looks just right to take the spring connectors.
Let us know how it goes next week, looking forward to the piccies.
Phil.
P.S don't forget some eyelets

Hi All,
For all of you worrying about Awnings for the Pergola on the sun Terrace.
Just posted 2 photos taken from our very wet visit to Condado last week.
This is an apartment in Garden 9 and yes the structure is made of solid timber!!! and it looks as if its not finished yet either.
Don't think PW will have much to say about my Ikea Awning , which incidentally fit a treat.

Hi there,
Is there anyone out there who has actaully fitted the Ikea awnings that everyone's been discussing? If so, is there any chance that some photos could be taken and posted on the forum so that we could see what they actually look like.
By the way Phil, I hope the photos you took of the wooden structure isn't any of the regular forum members as I personally think it looks totally out of place and over-bearing. Sorry if I've upset anyone, just not my taste......
Many thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,
Don't know if its any of the regular forum members apartment all I do know is that you can't miss the thing.
I personally think it is a complete eye sore, and the photos don't even do it justice believe me.
there also appears to be a further structure under construction between that apartment and the ajoining one which can't be seen in the photo.
If PW where insisting on awnings of a particular colour etc then this is surely out of place.
It was also interesting to see that the so called rules about washing lines on the terraces where being completely ignored. I saw 2 apartments with loads of washing on lines on the roof terrace, both incidentally occupied by Spanish families.

That's just what I was thinking AJW, you wouldn't want to be sitting on the solarium next to it when it happens. Phil, the one on the bottom, nice awning but have they painted their beam? ----- BTW, Chris & Ja did you manage to get your Ikea canopies up?

Looks massive doesn't it, though probably efficient? When we were at La Torre we saw that a number of terraces had wooden 'canopies', some had whicker or rush type coverings too. However they didnt look so chunky, maybe its because there are different levels at La Torre so the pergola's dont appear so 'free' standing. Possibly they haven't finished it yet and will trim back the overhang- mite look a tad better then.
Its probably not until there's some sort of community committee that the rules and regulations get discussed- but it must be an almost impossible task to get people to take things down they have paid for. Afterall when we were snagging we were told that everyone had to standardise their outside lights- what ever happened to that? We were also told no sky dishes would be permitted and yet saw quite a number when we were over.

On second viewing its clear they have actually built up one side, which makes it appear higher . Makes for good neighbourly relations I should think!
