I know this has previously been mentioned in threads so sorry!

Does anyone know of the best Sat Nav to purchase whether here or in Spain (does it talk Spanish?!) to give good directions from the airports - Alicante and San Javier, and also around the region to Condado?  I wanted to check that the new roads were programmed onto the system as it seems particularly difficult to purchase a map with the new motorways on it, so I would be interested to know if this has been added to the sat nav systems yet.

Many thanks.

Hi Lyndsey
I got a Tom Tom sat nav Europe edition from Halfords, but although it is up to date the roads around Condado are not available yet.
It got us nearly there but then it looks like you are driving around a field when you are actually on the new motorway...I don't think any of them have it on yet but I found it really useful to have in Spain.

Got the same as Kazzy, Tom Tom One europe edition.

If you go onto the Tom Tom updates website you can download the up to date latest maps. Cost me abt £50 for the latest map I think, (prob cos my Tom Tom about 18 month old), but they are up to date and have the latest motorways on them.

They are a couple of times where it tells you to go off the motorway on one slip road up to the roundabout then you join down the next slip road. Stupid little things like that, also if you are heading to Condado via the RM2, the easiest way is to carry on till you reach the roundabout at the end of the motorway and come back down the RM23 heading towards Mazarron. Tom Tom will take you off the RM2 early and through the local villages basically cutting the corner off.

Did a posting a while ago with useful co-ordinates on. Airports, Condado, Puerto Mazarron and Cartagena harbour parking etc.

We think sat nav definately worth it if you are heading into cities like Murcia

Hi,

I have not got Tom,Tom or road map.  Jump in the car and get lost this is normally when you find great places and shops and it will also improve your spanish trying to ask for directions when you don't know your way home.  Whats the worst that can happen you spend the night in your car, as i alway say to my mother you will not fall off the edge of the world. Go on give it a shot.

We got the europe edition TomTom in August- it was excellent for the whole time we were in Spain- including back and forth to Valencia airport and city as well as to, from and all around about La Torre and almost to Condado- just needs those newer roads and everything was easy to find even when it didnt get us right to the door.

Its not the sleeping the car that worries us if we get lost but stressful arguements about who said 'turn left here'!!  Maps are not a strong point for me- have to keep turning it the way we are travelling then I feel ill looking down at a map for more than 2 minutes. We have had so many exciting times with me map reading and have found many new places- but they weren't the places we wanted at the times we were meant to be there!!

Lyndsey

If you want a map showing the new roads, I can recommend the "Michelin Spain and Portugal Tourist & Motoring Map".  Bought mine from Amazon.co.uk and I think it cost about £8.   Make sure you order the newest version you can (mines Jan 2008 and it has all of the new roads around Condado and Cartagena on it).

Cheaper that a Tom Tom Europe - although I use both to be on the safe side..
