Hi everyone,
We are starting to plan for our long awaited shopping trip next week, and we remember people saying that there are a number of shops in and around Cartegena. Simon has tried to look through previous threads to find these but the titles of the threads are not helpful and he's now fast losing the will to live.
We know there's a big Carrefour there, but does anybody know what else is there.
Thanks
Alison & Simon

Hi
We found a big shopping centre with a large Carrefour plus loads of other shops, just like one of our indoor malls. Lots of restaurants to choose from.
Plus Aldi, Toys r us, their equivalent of B & Q, large sports shop and lots of others didn't have time for (my husbands words).
Definitely worth a visit. We set off to Cartagena with no idea where we were going but just that they had a large Carrefour. Luckily easily spotted from motorway as my directions were Carrefour, Cartagena!.. You can imagine my family's face.
If you do go keep your receipt from Carrefour and show it at the petro station as you get discount on fuel.
Pretty successful as I was going on blind luck!
Happy shopping

We went to the same carrefour with mall after someone said there was a large Carrefour on the road into Cartegena. Guess what, I was told that we didn't have much time either!

The Parque Mediterraneo has C & A, Zara, Toys r Us, Hennes, H & M, Carrefour and lots of others. It has a good Chinese buffet restaurant at the front entrance to Carrefour too. I struggled to find it coming from the Mazarron direction but found it easily coming from the La Manga side where we stayed in April. Think I ended up finding it by going into Cartagena and following signs for Murcia.

Easiest route from Condado (Maybe not the shortest though). Take the RM23 north out of the resort (away from Mazarron), then the RM2 west (back towards the airport). This road ends when it joins the A30. Take the A30 south towards Cartagena and keep on this road. The Parque is on this road - I think exit 191, but not sure, a few KM before you reach Categena.
Check for Fiestas!! - I went there a couple of weeks back on a Friday, and the whole place was shut down for the local fiesta!!

The exit from A30 is marked "Torreciega" also not sure about the number.
There are also loads of other businesses on the industrial estate itself. It may be worth a run round in case there is something you need. For example i am sure I have seen a sign for sofas near the roundabout at the top of the road near Media Markt.

hi Alison & Simon
We were over last week and met a couple from Scotland who were completing a penthouse but I dont think it was yourselves. We went shopping alot while we were there. We headed to IKEA and found a shopping center beside it that had toys r us, Alcampo (their Asdas I think) which had everything from dinner sets, white goods, furniture to fresh food, well worth a visit! there was also Saturn and Miro who do electrical goods, they had a food court too Subway, McDs, BK, death by pasta, an american restaurant. Im hopeless for directions so Ill get hubby to post them later

Hi Everyone, thanks for all the info and directions very useful when planning our shopping trips.
Hi Tam,
No Simon and I are flying out this Sunday to visit, but not complete just yet as hab cert is not ready, but to shop till we drop. This is our first visit since we signed up to this mad house last year in august, so really excited at seeing the complex for the first time and meeting all our new neighbours and friends. Must have been some other lovely scots couple you meet.

Hi Ali,
It was another lovely Scottish couple but were in the same situation as you as they didnt have the hab cert yet and were signing power of attorney over to PW so that they wouldnt have to go back out to complete. I remembered that IKEA was in Murcia the center. We took our sat nav with us which was helpful but you have to trust your gut as well and ignore her sometimes!! I posted some photos dated 1 Oct from when we went out.
Good luck with the shop till you drop!! thats what we did and I have been so exhausted from shopping just a few tips, plan where you want to go and write a list of what you need (I did it room by room). IKEA have a cat online that you can look at but I found that the prices were very different! I was thrilled to find a sofa bed for €199 but when we got there it was €399 Have to say that there are furniture stores everywhere, muebles (probably spelt wrong but you get the idea ) is furniture in Spainish again I'm being naive in thinking that you may not know that already. Have to say that we found PW great and very helpful. They gave us a print out of where the furniture would go in our apartment.
When we had snagged PW offered us a key holding service for 6 mths for free so that home style and the builders could enter the apartment without any problems.

There is a Euroski hypermarket in Cartagena where we have bought lots of reasonably priced bits and pieces for our apartment including TV, patio umbrella etc.. The most direct route is to take the RM23 towards Mazarron and take the AP7 toll road from Mazarron to Cartagena. Leave the motorway at the Cartagena exit and follow the signs towards the city along what appears to be a minor road and after about a mile Euroski is in the left. The journey takes about 40 minutes and the toll charges are just under 5 euros eachway.

To avoid the toll road which is expensive. Use RM23 but take exit before Camposol , signposted La Pinilla. Follow this road through La Pinilla and carry straight on and you will reach Las Palas. Sraight through Las Palas ( or call for coffee at Meson Madera ) to the roundabout..Take first exit marked Cartagena . Straight on over the motorway and at T juction take a left on N332. This road runs parallel to motorway. Simply carry on this road through various villages .The last one is Molinas de Marfagones and where the motorway exit is. Keep following the road for about a mile and you will see eroski on the left.
A good shop along the N332 is called Franvi. It is a wholesale butcher that supplys many restaurants in the area. They also sell to the public. We buy all our meat there as do many other english and spanish. Very good prices and quality.

When we stayed last time in Puerto Mazarron there was an English butchers there - beside Upper supermarket - dont know what the stuff was like as it was shut - could be expensive but might be worth it if you have fussy children! I know what my can be like!!! He was advertising proper pies and English sausages etc
