Does anyone have any recent news on the Oasis shopping mall?

A post on another forum, dated Monday 13th,says the poster was told very recently that the Oasis is in doubt and there are no immediate plans to progress with the other two golf courses.

I can see that in the present climate many things will be put on hold as we have heard regarding El Mirador so I wondered if anyone else has anything recent to add to this/confirm this Oasis information.

Not heard about this JH, but obviously something that I am sure all owners on Condado are interested in.  Which site did you pick this info' up from?

I can see the other 2 golf courses being put on hold until they can be sure they can move more properties, but the Oasis is a must for us all.....even if it has a staged intorduction.  Might be a good time to open up a bar / restaurant in Alhama........anything half decent will clean up over the next few years if your news is correct.

Hi Jan

Who is saying this?  One of those negative forums?

I've read that PW customer services said that the Isla condado Alhama is due to finish Second half of 2009 ,when I asked last week (June 09 onwards but possibly a little earlier).

Someon reported this week that it appears that they were starting on phase 1 of the lake in that they were digging/excavating a very large trough around the blocks. Apparantly the lake will be completed in phases (presumably because the commercial centre/Oasis is part of the lake system).

I agree with you Skell the Oasis is very important to all Condados!

Hi Jackie, I suppose it is more of a negative forum but its just another Polaris World Forum.

Perhaps its just a holding measure by Polaris- the poster said they'd asked whilst on Condado last weekend.

Mind you- when we were over I asked the rep who was snagging with us about shops and the Foro and Oasis and she said 'but you have a shop' and pointed over to the new bar. So I think things get lost in translation too.

Hi

ive just come back from there, just bought a property, last weekend,

they were telling us that the Oasis is def going ahead but unsure as to when the other golf courses would be started. I think the main reason for the Oasis is the income that they will get from there, as they say it will be the biggest shopping area in the area

Hi Jan

I think you have had your fair share  "Lost in translation" !!   this week !!  Bless you!   I'm so pleased as things seem to be moving in the right direction for me but there is always that "PW devil on mind shoulder saying  he he he he don't be so sure it all going to go to plan !  Hah Hah Hah!!!  "

Good to hear that new michelle

Hi Michelle, I think your info is likely correct as the Oasis is supposed to be a big tourist attraction and as you say will bring in money and more potential purchasers once people see what on the resort.

(Yes Jackie, its been a bit confusing to say the least over our deliveries and our keys and poor Carol  liaising with delivery people and so on. It has continued today as Carol is now caring for a kettle and toater that the delivery people forgot during the week and seemed to think she'd like to 'mind' for us. Its a good job Carol's so tolerant)

I imagine the other golf courses will wait until the property markets pick up- there's so much land around them to build on.

Would it really be so bad if a huge 'shopping centre' open to the public and right on our doorstep disappeared????  The more I consider the impact of this, then the more I quite like the sound of a nice, well planned Foro (or two) with some nice shops and great restaurants.  So long as they install the lake, some great landscaping and a few more pubs and restaurants where the Oasis was originally planned then I think I would still be delighted with Condado.

Not too sure about the Oasis, been told on previous occasion that this would follow after the Foro is up. They apparantly have some big Spanish retailers lined up to into the units so wouldn't have thought it would be scrapped.
As for the golf course I was talking to the salesman in the office, he was telling me that the Nicklaus consortium had just been out the day before and said the golf course must be open by August 2009 and that they would be starting to clear the land on the other 2 courses from May next year, we shall wait and see.

As for the Isla they are already digging out the lake around the perimeter of these properties.

Hi Arelene, I mostly agree with you except that we were initially interested in Condado because of the whole concept. We see the Oasis offering quite alot to residents- in that, when on shorter breaks it wouldnt be necessary to leave the resort with something like Oasis on the doorstep. In fact we have thought there willl be times we wouldnt even be hiring a car when /if Corvera opens and when/if Polaris offer a shuttle bus service. That was something we both thought would be a positive if we come over individually with our friends or family for a long weekend. We were told that Oasis was meant to be part of the appeal when the three golf courses were up and running and the golf tournaments bring in people and there'd be a hotel then too- of course this is some way down the line and may be even further down the line now.

When we told our various family members about Condado it was the Oasis that caught their attention as much as the golf because it made Condado different from the other resorts we/they have stayed on in the past. Might have to reserve judgement though because all those parking spaces suggest PW expect a lot of tourists coming to visit!

Hi Jan

Wouldn't like to be in the shopping centre if all those parking spots were taken.
Were told all the parking spots were for major golf events. The Ryder cup was mentioned again.

So many rumours.

Jan & Mike

i agree with you the Oasis was central to most of us buying. We bought into the concept of everything being there without a need for a car - I could see me buzzing around in my gold golf buggy (surrounded by girls!) without needing to leave the complex!

Besides, the Oasis is on the outside of our apartments and we can get to it but no one can get in to us!

I suppose that PW just hope to attract or instigate golf tournaments. I know someone who is developing a golf tournament concept in Marbella at the moment and they plan to look at Condado and La Torre next year. But I agree about being in the Oasis if all those parking spaces are taken- just a tad worse than IKEA on a Saturday!

One of our problems is that no-one seems to get the same information as anyone else from any of the PW reps

We need to be careful with what we are prepared listen to and then believe.

The negativity that is often posted can spread like a disease we could be our own downfall if not careful.

The Oasis may not go ahead straight away it may get postponed for a while and that may have always been the plan, then so be it. We would imagine the Oasis would be Polaris best earner and will generate considerable coin for years to come and be their biggest asset on the resort as the Spanish will come from miles to see what Polaris is about.

The Project is huge and will still be developing for the next 6 to 8 years we should hope that Polaris are capable of making the correct decisions during these difficult times and manage the project in the best interests of it's investors (those that have purchased properties on the resort). Their main concern at this time will be not going out of business which is got to be our main concern also, so if they decide to delay certain phases of the scheme so be it.

We are fortunate enough to see the completion of our first apartment and are thrilled with the results but the second is on hold or at least we think it is (golf Suites, not put a spade in the ground yet).

The Faro and the golf course have got to be the priority as more properties without amenities in my opinion would be foolhardy.

The Oasis will be Built it would have been one of the main conditions for the planing consent being granted. I noticed during  our last visit the roads had been brought to formation level adjacent to where the Oasis is to be sited the drainage is in also.

I for one believe the resort will be a roaring success.

Agree with you Fozzer Condado is central to Condado - without it  the whole project is dead and no further sales will ensue.

Again I must stress that the Oasis is outside the perimeters of Condado residents so why are they getting concerned?

I am very pleased to have something the size of Meadowhall next to me without the intrusion of visitors.

Aside from the proposed bars, restaurants and shops in Oasis can anyone remember if there was meant to be a cinema as well?

The sketches/plans we were shown all that time ago also showed small boats on the lake

Hi Jan!

I remember the small rowing boats on the lake but I don't recall the cinema you mentioned?
I will look through all the paperwork Jim and I have compiled through the last 2 years and will let you know as soon as possible!

Hi All,

Just a bit of information from outside the PW camp, so to speak.

When we were over in September I spoke to a young lady at our bank in Puerto de Mazarron.
She told me that the big shopping centre at Condado, by which I can only assume she mean't the Oasis, had been backed by the local government and that the local people were very excited about having shops and facilities close to them instead of travelling to Murcia.
If this is the case then it is probably part of the agreement between PW and the local government that it is built.

Personally, if we are going to have such a development then great, but only if it attracts quality shops etc and we dont end up with a "white elephant" were most of the units are empty.
We will have to trust PW to negotiate the right deals and of course as we have all learned to do so well ........................ Wait and see!!
