Break-ins

Tony & Kati emailed me yesterday as follows:

Hello everyone, just a quick note to let you know that whilst doing our weekly checks on Friday we found that attico g has been broken into, the thieves have come across block 3 roof and jumped onto attico g's master bedroom balcony and broke bedroom 2 shutter and window glass to gain access. They made off the same way as getting in with a washing machine, the oven the hob and television! The owners have been informed and also the police who came out yesterday and this morning to take finger prints etc..we spent the morning at the gurdia civil filing a report.

I'm posting this for the people who weren't on Tony & Kati's email circulation because I think you need to know. At the very least, please make sure your contents are insured.

Apparently the banditos are Spanish gypsies/squatters in block 3. I would recommend that anyone who doesn't have grills already pays a visit to the blacksmith in the village. His name is Jose-Antonio and his nephew Carlo works with him. They do not speak English but you will be able to make yourself understood. When we had ours fitted (in Oct 2007) Jose came out to measure up and then came back later with a price. We left a deposit 300 (euros) and gave him a set of keys. When we went  back in the Dec we collected our keys and paid the balance (1200 euros). Job complete, apartment in tact and no mess. 1500 euros for all of our doors and windows to have good solid grills fitted and give us peace of mind seems a small price and well worth it. Two apartments in our corridor have been broken into. I think the grills have saved us.
