Mobile phone cards

Has anyone bought a Spanish PAYG sim for using to call the UK whilst over there?  Any info appreciated, thanks.  Arlene.

I was wondering the same myself, also wondered if you can buy a couple of spanish sim cards for myself and teenage sons so that we can keep in touch whilst we are both in Spain and they are off doing their own thing.

I am no expert on phones, but we found the easiest way was to buy a phone package - phone, plus sim card which normally comes with for example 10€ worth of calls. I get the shop assistant to do all the set up business & then you´re ready to go. I have a movistar sim & whenever I top my phone up it tells me the expiry date of the balance which is 6months from the top up. Of course the same principle applies for just a sim card, but the packages are very good value. FNAC (a bit like HMV) at Nueva Condomina normally have a good selection.

We also have our HAPPY phone - which gives great rates for calling UK land lines from Spain - it´s about 10cents per minute with a 32 cents connection fee.

Dot.Com world on Camposol A a few doors down from me in Dragontours also sells Sim cards with or without phones. And Lex is more expert with technology then me.

Bought orange spain sim PAYG and then you can buy cards from Best wishes that you dial code in and gives lower cost internation. Garage on Camposol sells sim  comes with 450mins calls plus €5 international card  total €15

If you have an old phone hanging around at home and it is 'unlocked to any network' then there are lots of pay as u go sims to choose from and buy in Spain.

If your old phone is not 'unlocked' you can get this done for £5 - £10 in most independent mobile phone/accessory shops.

Or you can buy a phone for £10-£20 from carphone warehouse, cos theirs are all unlocked.

I bought a happy mobil sim in Dos Mares shopping centre (u dont need to go that far), no charge really cos I paid 20 euro but came with 20 euro credit.

Have to give NIE number, and is easy to top up at most cash machines.

Great because if I'm not there using, then I'm not paying, and No big bills when I get home from T-Mobile anymore.

if you go to camposol computers they have a new phone company called HITS mobile works off of the voda masts, i have it, you get a free phone and sim and credit, also has the cheapst calls around at the moment the other phone was 49euros with 10 eurso credit.

I bought the HITS mobile phone sim from camposol computers too.  Didnt buy the phone as have an old one at home.  Sim cost me 12 euros with 7 euros of time.  There's also a questionnarie that if you fill it in gives you another 5 euros effectively making the sim free.  They match your first top up as well so you can get extra free time.  Calls to uk seem cheap - 5 cents to a UK landline and 19 cents to a mobile.

Having just spent 25 quid in nine days on mobile and text calls I'm hoping its going to be cheaper - which won't be hard!
